Love is in the air! (Maybe not the air around me, but you get the picture.) With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, the eternal question is asked once again: What do I wear?! I am the type to scoff at tradition and do my own thing when others choose to stick with what they know, especially when it comes to themes. This leads me to expressing my festive nature in less than orthodox ways, for example the “Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal” sweatshirt I wore to the Theology Majors Christmas Brunch at Professor Anderson’s house. No one understood why I thought I was so hilarious, and looking back on it, that may have been the wrong crowd. I digress. This Valentine’s Day, I challenge you to shake up your look a little bit! Being the staunch journalist I am, I have done some investigating and found a few of what I consider the perfect accessories for February 14th! Treat yo’self.
Teal and Mint
While the typical palette for V-Day is obviously red and pink, a touch of teal cools off the red hot look making it more winter friendly. Earrings are a subtle way to express the fun pop of unexpected color.
Metallic Shoes
Put a little pep in your step with some fancy kicks! Metallics are all the rage right now and I totally get it. The shine is exactly what I need for a little added confidence and that’s just what I could use on a date, especially on the (supposedly) most romantic day of the year!
Lips and Hearts
The season of love calls for symbols of love! Incorporate lips and hearts into your outfit by adding themed jewelry or scarves. Either will let the world know you’re celebrating without being obnoxious about it.
Parisian Flair
What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than to become a walking advertisement for the City of Love? This adorable clutch by Kate Spade completes any lovely ensemble with a literary vibe and a classic beret tops off the look perfectly!
Black and White
Keeping things classics is always a good idea. Black and white are the most classic colors a girl can wear, thus the LBD. But if you aren’t looking to get all dolled up in your Little Black Dress, try a black and white jacket or cardigan. The colors are flattering and your confidence will be kick-ass!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
