At this point, another Thanksgiving has come and passed. For many of us, we spend the last couple days at home recovering from a semi-food-comatose state, but for others, we’ve already moved onto the next holiday: Christmas.
We’ve already gone Black Friday shopping for early Christmas presents, pulled out the Christmas decorations and the tree, and of course, begun playing Christmas music on repeat. But the Christmas decorating doesn’t have to end when you head back to your dorm. In fact, with Pinterest right at your finger tips, bringing the holiday spirit to your dorm room is easier than ever before. With that, here are 4 easy ways to decorate your dorm before the semester is over!
1. Christmas Lights
Christmas lights are one of the bare necessities of dorm decor. Though typically a seasonal decoration in the rest of the world, this is college: your dorm is small and dark, and these added Christmas lights can bring a lot of light to the situation. So keep them up year round if you want, and for Christmas, you can make your lights more festive by rearranging the lights into a Christmas shape, attach ornaments to the lights, or wrap garland around the light strand.
2. Window Decorations
The view outside your window may look like a winter wonderland, but your can bring that scene from the outside of your window to the inside as well. The decoration options for this part of your room are truly unlimited. You can hang up ornaments. If you feel like investing a little more time in your crafting, you can make paper snowflakes to hang up, and this way, they serve as pretty decorations and a makeshift curtain. And if you’re in a pinch for time, but still want a little Christmas spirit, you can always resort to window stickers.
3. Door Decorations
Extend Christmas all the way to your door frame! The dorm door is often a neglected and even forgotten area of decoration, and that can easily be fixed around the holidays. Just stick on a wreath to the outside of the door. You can find cute ways to make a wreath, or just tack on a store-bought one. Taping wrapping paper or a big bow on the door is always a good option too. If you feel like tackling a challenge, make a whole winter wonderland scene on the outside of your door.
4. Don’t Forget the Tree!
If Charlie Brown taught me anything, it’s this: it’s not Christmas without a Christmas tree, no matter the size or shape. Just because you may have downsized by moving into a dorm, doesn’t mean you have to completely reject this Christmas staple. Get a small tree to put on your desk. Get creative with making your tree. Use green post-it notes, or as shown above, use Christmas lights make a tree shape on the wall.
So this holiday season, don’t be a Grinch or even worse, a cotton-headed-ninny-muggins with your lack of holiday decorations. Celebrate the last couple weeks of this semester by sprucing up your room.
