Harry and Emma: Hermione and the Pure-Blood Prince

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

At some point, you probably dreamed of becoming a princess. Life probably shattered that hope at some point. You don’t live in a castle, you can’t feel a pea through a billion mattresses, you may have an evil stepmother and ugly stepsisters but your godmother probably can’t help you get to the ball. So you gave up, resigned yourself to life as an ordinary girl, still holding out hope for your very own real prince charming.

One day, you may have realized that your dreams of becoming a princess weren’t over. Sure, you can go to Disney World and walk around in a tiara. But you can also go to Europe and try to woo one of their living royalty.

Sadly, Prince William is taken. But Kate Middleton is a commoner, so there’s hope for you too. And wild Prince Harry is still available. Granted, he’s a little bit further removed from the throne, but he’s a good-looking ginger. Prince Harry not your type? That’s okay! This week it came out that Prince Harry may secretly be dating Emma Watson (Emma Watson has denied the rumor, but we can still dream, right?).

Harry and Emma may not actually be dating, but there is something charming about the idea that one of Britain’s princes is dating the smartest and most beautiful member of the Golden Trio. J. K. Rowling may not have put Harry and Hermione together, but there’s potential for Hermione (Miss Emma Watson) to fall for Harry in real life.

Here are a few reasons why it would be amazing if Emma actually started dating Prince Harry:

1.  Emma is all for women’s rights and equality. As a princess, she would surely continue her campaign for justice, perhaps reaching an even greater audience.

2.  It would increase Emma’s similarities with Hermione: she clearly has a thing for gingers.

3.  Emma Watson and Kate Middleton could become sister-in-laws and would probably break the Internet.

4.  If none of us can be real life royalty, Emma Watson should be.

5.  The jokes and plays on words would be fantastic:

  a.  Harry and the Muggleborn Princess

  b.  Hermione and Harry Together at Last

  c.  Hermione Falls for a New Ginger

  d.  Hermione and the Pure-Blood Prince

6.  They could have a half-blood prince.

7.  Emma could be a witch, a princess, an actress, and a humanitarian. (She’s still amazing without a tiara).

8.  Prince Harry would become a more respectable gentleman with Emma by his side.

9.  Imagine the double dates: Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, and Emma Watson (once again, breaking the Internet).

10.  She would be a great Aunt and role model for Prince George who can become the youngest supported yet of #HeForShe.

11.  Halloween photos: They can go as Ron and Hermione. Done!

12.  Emma deserves a real life prince to make her a princess.

Emma may not become a princess by marrying Prince Harry, though she’ll get to play one in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. But as Emma said, “marrying a Prince not a prerequisite for being a Princess.” If she thinks you can be a Princess without marrying a Prince, there’s still hope for all of us!

Notre Dame

Maria is finishing her Masters in English at Notre Dame. She has read many good books and several bad books, but she usually tries not to finish those. Her current favorites are: 1984, The Book Thief, The Tragedy Paper, Code Name Verity, Dr. Copernicus, I Am the Messenger, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and of course, Harry Potter. She is writing her second thesis on Harry Potter, exploring notions of authorship and reader agency in the digital age. She even managed to write her Capstone on British Children's Literature and designed her own Directed Readings Course on Notre Dame history during undergrad. Her favorite way to read is with a mug of tea and scented candles. When she doesn't have her nose stuck in a book, she can be found binging on the BBC (Downton Abbey, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Merlin [RIP]). Her favorite color is purple, she studied abroad in London, and she enjoys being an amateur painter. She harbors a not-so-secret dream of one day writing a children's book, but until then, she is likely to be found reading them and writing letters whenever she gets a chance. She hopes to teach English or work in a university sharing her love of education.
