Game MVP: Steve Nash ’18

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

Everyone loves Nelly Furtado’s classic jam, “Promiscuous.”  What most people don’t know is that the famous line, “Game MVP like Steve Nash,” is not actually about basketball star Steve Nash, hailing from South Africa. It is really about the squash star, Stevie Nash, hailing from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. When he isn’t in the basement of the Rock beating his roommates on the squash court you can find this MVP in the library tutoring local students or riding his scooter around South Quad.

What activities are you involved in around campus?

Squash Club, Tutor for the CSC, Tutor for the Learning Resource Center, SIBC Project Leader, Wall Street Club, and Club Golf

What is your favorite thing about living in Dillon Hall?

The tradition and its size in that, because it’s the biggest dorm on campus, I think we get the most diverse group. I get to meet a lot of people from different backgrounds.

What is your favorite Notre Dame tradition?

It’s not really a tradition, but I love that all the alumni are so passionate about the school and that they really love their alma mater. To go to a school for only four years and to have a lifetime love for it is so cool. I don’t think there is anywhere else like Notre Dame.

If you could live in any other dorm on campus, where would you live and why?

I wouldn’t. My heart will always be with Dillon Hall.

What is the best class you have taken so far?

Microeconomics with professor Mogavero. The man was a legend. He introduced me to how high quality Notre Dame professors are.

You get into a lot of shenanigans with your roommates. What is the funniest thing you have done with them?

(Laughing) We’ve done a lot of stupid stuff. I smacked shaving cream on Will’s face, I’ve thrown snowballs at Will while he is sleeping, I took the mattress off of Will’s bed and put it in the 24-hour lounge. We even organized a James Bond-style mission to raid the room of one of our friends at St. Mary’s. We even had a get away driver and wore suits. Will and I also ordered secret service-like headsets, bought squirt gun shields, and will text unsuspecting friends to meet us at random places so we can attack. That’s really just scratching the surface though.

(Author’s Note: I can confirm all these stories. I was soaked with a squirt gun while working on math homework.)

Fast Facts

What is the one song you always sing in the shower?

“The Climb” by Miley Cyrus.

If you could get dinner with three people in the world, living or dead, who would they be and why?

  1. Jesus. I couldn’t pass up the chance to chat with the Big Man Himself.
  2. Da Vinci. I would like to see how he reacts to the world we live in today.
  3. The cute blonde girl in my Management class.

If you were in the Mr. America Pageant, what would your talent be?

Stand up comedy. I know I would do well because my mom always tells me how funny I am.

What is your favorite scent?

The smell of bacon in the morning is the best smell in the world.

What is your favorite quote?

“God first. Others second. Self last.”

This or That?

Niall Horan or Harry Styles?

Me: What?! Niall is my favorite member of One Direction. (I proceed to pull up a picture of Niall on my phone)

Stevie: Okay, yeah, he is pretty cute.

NDH or SDH?

SDH.

Backstreet Boys. Come on, is that even a question?

Just Girly Things
