If you could go back to freshman year and tell yourself one thing you know now, what would it be?

Don’t be afraid to drop an elective class. I really struggled in my science course fall semester of freshman year and the advisor scared me by saying I would stay behind in FYS if I dropped it.

What is the #1 item on your ND bucket list?

Finding and traveling through the underground tunnels!

What is your best ND memory so far?

Wandering around with my best friends on football Saturdays with the anticipation of a victory (God-willing) and the excitement of a promising season ahead

What is the most played song on your iPod right now?

“Wasting All These Tears” by Cassadee Pope (just because I really like the song)

What is a little known fact about you?

I danced for 9 years, but you’d never know it based on my coordination now.

Who is your celebrity crush?

Colin Farrell

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

Enthusiastic, caring, and persuasive

What’s your favorite movie quote?

“Americans play to win at all times. I wouldn’t give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed.” – General Patton in “Patton” (He said that in a speech in real life!)

You are involved with Relay for Life! We want to hear about it!

How did you get involved?

I participated in Relay for Life at my high school in Texas, and when I was presented with the opportunity to get involved at ND, I jumped at the chance.

How long have you been involved?

I have served as a student co-chair, along with Erika Wallace, for two years.

Why is this cause important to you?

Unfortunately, cancer is a disease that everyone is familiar with in some way, and I just think that we can all do our part to support our survivors and our caregivers by showing them that we are joining in the fight.

What is your favorite part about working on Relay?

I really enjoy seeing so many people get passionate about the fight against cancer, so my favorite part would be just enjoying the final event. I also love seeing the ice rink dyed purple!

What is the most difficult part?

Getting people excited in time for them to share the news with others and fundraise earlier than right before the event happens. (Do your part by donating or signing up today!)

Why should Notre Dame be enthusiastic to participate in this event?

ND’s Relay has earned several awards, including the most fundraising university per capita and the event with the most registered survivors, and we would like to continue to win more! Also, we’ve been holding the event for 10 years now and we’ve raised over a $1 million so it’d be great to continue the tradition.

When is the event?

March 28th in Compton Family Ice Arena!

What exciting things do you have planned for this year?

We will have a broomball tournament, open skate, performances by Harmonia and the Glee Club, and lots of great food giveaways from Chipotle, Hacienda, Carbon Golden Waffles, and more!

Any advice for pulling an all nighter at Relay?

Committee members have been known to consume their fair share of 5-hour Energy, but personally, I just drink a Starbucks before opening ceremony and then surround myself with fun people so the time just flies by. (Good advice!)

Last thoughts?

Thank you for interviewing me about ND’s Relay for Life, Sara. And if anyone is interested in getting involved, feel free to reach out to me at aromeros@nd.edu

Thanks, Andrea!
