7 Reasons to Love ND in the Spring

There is arguably nothing more beautiful than Notre Dame’s campus in the spring. The quads are finally green again and you can wake up and hear birds chirping outside your window. With this shift in the weather comes a tangible improvement in students’ moods as the school year draws to a close. What with the advent of final exams and an onslaught of end of the semester work, it can be easy to forget to appreciate the beauty around us.

You can finally play sports and lay out on the quads

Whether it’s Kan Jam, Frisbee, Volleyball, or another sport, on any given afternoon you can find your friends doing something recreational to enjoy the sun.

Wake Week

Although other dorms now celebrate underground spirit weeks, no one can rival the original in nonstop debauchery (although Knott’s Februtosus gives the Dawghouse a run for its money). If you don’t know anyone in Alumni well enough to partake in this phenomenon, I suggest you get on that ASAP to ensure that you don’t miss the fun next year.

Summer is finally within reach

After months of non-stop work, late nights in Club Hes, and anxiety-induced breakdowns, break is just a mere three weeks away filled with the promise of beach days, star gazing, and bonfires.

Spring wardrobes are finally broken out

Anyone who peruses ND’s Yak feed knows how much ND boys love seeing girls in sundresses. Conversely, anyone who does so also knows how much girls love making fun of ND guys for wearing pastels and chubbies as soon as the temp gets above 50 degrees.

The campus lakes are appreciated again

With the warmer weather comes a barrage of joggers who previously suffered through the SB winter working out indoors. Parents bring their young kids to feed the ducks and walk around the lakes, late night skinny dipping commences (I’m lookin at you, Joe Etling), and couples mosey around and chat on the benches.

There are more outdoor campus events

Everyone knows how precious warm weather is second semester, and they rightfully take advantage of every opportunity they have to enjoy it. Just this past Sunday, different variations of berries were being offered on South Quad for free to anyone who wanted them.

It’s finally darty season

There may be nothing on this earth better than a good old-fashioned darty (with the exception of home games). With the sun shining, music blasting, breeze blowing, you’re guaranteed to have a good time with all your friends.
