I find fall to be quite daunting. I’m not a fan of the cold and knowing that the South Bend winter is approaching is dreadful. However, I am a fan of cozy clothes, i.e. flannel, and now is the time to pull flannel out of my closet. Flannel is so cute, so comfortable and makes the dreaded cold a little more bearable. So here are a five ways to wear flannel this fall.

1. With a Vest

Pair flannel with another fall staple: the vest. My personal favorite is the J. Crew quilted vest, but there are plenty of options from puffer to fleece available for your choosing. Your favorite pair of jeans and cute booties completes the look. Bonus: these AEO X Cafe jeggings are made from recycled coffee grounds, which as an avid coffee-drinker is pretty cool.

J. Crew Quilted Excursion Down Vest, $120. L.L. Bean Scotch Plaid Shirt, $44.95. Tommy Hilfiger Heeled Oxford, $89. AEO Denim X Cafe Jegging, $49.95. Gucci Dark Romance Lip Lacquer, $39. butter LONDON Royal Navy Nail Lacquer, $7.97.

2. The Lazy Way

You could also wear flannel with my personal favorite kind of pant (or non-pant), leggings! Admit it; our favorite look is the one that says “We’re not trying at all… but we look cute right?” Yes, yes we do.

Madewell Ex-Boyfriend Flannel Shirt, $79.50. Target Black Leggings, $8. Jansport Navy Digital Edition Backpack, $39. UGG Australia Lattice Cable Boot, $150.

3. Tie It Up

If you’re cooler than me maybe you can pull off this edgy outfit, but if not feel free to tie a flannel around whatever: a dress, a skirt, normal jeans or my personal fave, distressed shorts. If you want to go this bada$$ route, find your punkiest pair of black jeans, some dark lipstick and spikey jewelry.

PINK Perfect Pullover, $45.95. Faith Connexion Flannel Mini Skirt, $680 (I more so just picked this one to give the effect of a tied flannel, but honestly, don’t drop 600+ dollars on that, just use whatever flannel you have). River Island Black Rip Skinny Jeans, $90. Converse Burgundy Chucks, $55. Betsey Johnson Panther Ruffled Halo Studs, $30. Bling Jewelry Black Stud Bracelet, $30.99. Ray-Ban Clubmaster Sunglasses, $174. NYX Liquid Liner, $7. L’ Oreal Paris Project Runway Mystic’s Kiss Lipstick, $5.04.

4. As a Romper…?

When I first saw this I was skeptical, but then I realized it’s made for sleeping and it made much more sense. Flannel is really nice to sleep in during the cold seasons. Warm and soft; it’s like wearing a blanket. If you’re feeling a bit more stylish at bedtime, try out this romper. I’m sure it’s delightful.

Aerie Flannel Romper, $44.95. Victoria’s Secret The Cozy Slipper, $29.50. WILDFOX Cat Napping Air Mask, $28. The Rise and Fall  Pillow Case Set, $24.97.

5. Preppy Style

Put flannel under a sweater and all of the sudden you have a preppy look that’s also probably warm AF. I also included some Sperry boots, which are literally the best pair of shoes I own. I strongly encourage everyone to get a pair. The Kate Spade milk bag is just a fun touch. Compeletely optional, but kudos to you if you pull that off.

Abercrombie Plaid Flannel Shirt, $58. J. Crew Cable Crewneck Sweater, $39.99. L.L. Bean Merion Wool Ragg Sock, $22.95. Sperry Peak Blvd Boot, $140. Abercrombie Stone Suede Jeggings, $34.30. Kate Spade Creme de la Creme Milk Container Crossbody, $278.

Savor the fall weather while you can and maybe stock up on some flannel before it gets too chilly. It won’t be long before we’re all wearing our oh-so-adorable parkas. Whatever way you choose to wear your flannel I’m sure you’ll look fiiiiine.
