5 Ways to Make the Most of Your Senior Year

All of us seniors are probably getting tired of hearing that same question over and
over again: “So, what are you doing next year?” For some of you, this may be the
chance to brag about that awesome full-time job you just scored. For others, it’s just
another opportunity to wallow in not knowing what you’re doing with your life.
Getting a job is super important—it’s supposed to be the point of going to college—
but senior year only comes once. Here are some ways you can skip the stress and
bask in the glory that is being a senior (while filling out job apps, of course):

1. Do that thing you’ve always wanted to try. Maybe you’re itching to display your
true athleticism in a brutal game of broomball or bookstore basketball. Or perhaps
you’ve always wanted to show off your skills at Acousticafe but never had the guts
to try it. It’s your last chance for fun activities before leaving ND for the “real world.”
So take advantage of all the opportunities we have here—the sillier, the better.

2. Be extracurricular. Notre Dame also has a ton of resources for learning beyond
the classroom. There’s always an interesting show being put on at DPAC, and they
even screen popular movies at discounted prices for students. And maybe you’ve
never been to the Snite—they have a pretty cool permanent collection in addition to
rotating exhibitions. Why not check it out?

3. Go take a walk. We Domers are lucky—we have an absolutely gorgeous campus!
Light a candle at the Grotto, take a stroll around the lakes and basically pretend
you’re a freshman all over again. Explore all of the sights before the cold weather
makes you never want to leave your room. And make sure to take pictures! With fall
leaves like these, anyone can be a professional photographer.

4. Go to an away game. Break out of the Notre Dame bubble and check out another
school’s campus for an away game. It doesn’t hurt that our team is awesome this
year—so make sure you tailgate like a champion today.

5. Plan fun breaks. It’s sad to say it, but it’s hard to know where you’ll be a few
months from now. Make the most of your fall and spring breaks, whether it’s a
trip to Vegas or Florida, or even a relaxing week in South Bend. You might not be
together with your friends for much longer!

The real world is scary, and the school year is passing quickly. It’s important to get
your life in order, but try not to get too stressed out about the future. We won’t be at
Notre Dame forever.
