4 Patriotic Outfits for the 4th

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

With the 4th of July approaching stores are displaying a ton of star-spangled apparel, accessories and items. However sporting the American flag isn’t the only way to go for a cute 4th of July ensemble. A more subtle nod to the famous red, white and blue can make you look stylish and patritotic. Here are a few outfit ideas for whatever you may be doing on the Fourth!

1.  For the Girl at the Game

What better way to celebrate America than with one of America’s favorite past-times? Many baseball teams will be playing on the 4th of July, including my personal hometwon favorite the St. Louis Cardinals. This baseball tee paired with American themed cut-off denim is the perfect way to celebrate an inevitable Cardinals win and American independence. If against your better judgment you root for the Cubs, their colors also happen to fit into the red, white and blue color scheme, so that could easily be done as well.

Target American Jean Shorts, $19.99. PINK St. Louis Cardinals Short Sleeve Baseball Tee, $34.95. Alex and Ani St. Louis Cardinals Primary Logo Charm Bangle, $32. Polo Ralph Lauren Signature Pony Hat, $39.50

2. For the Girl Watching Fireworks

Naturally most people will probably watch fireworks that night, in which case this comfortable and casual outfit is perfect. It is classic American style without being outrageously patriotic or tacky. Whether you’re just hanging out with friends or cozying up to a significant other, this does the trick.

Bow-Tie Denim Blouse, $27.80. H&M White Short Twill Shorts, $12.95. Karl Lagerfeld Unisex Red Wayfarer Sunglasses, $49.97. Keds Red Champion Originals, $45. Etsy Red and White Polka Dot Dolly Bow Headband, $12. Essie Happy Wife Happy Life Nail Polish, $8.50.

3. For the Girl on a Date

Perhaps your love life is better than mine and you were asked out for this 4th of July. Kudos to you. In that case, you might need something a little more put together to gaze at the fireworks or go to a BBQ in.

Wearing burgundy lipstick and nail polish with this cobalt blue dress gives a subtle nod to the holiday without overdoing it. The flirty earrings and four-leaf clover neckace for good luck (and to rep Notre Dame of course) are sure to make for a perfect evening. Even though you might have to spend a pretty penny on the jewelry, Kate Spade is usually worth it. And if the date isn’t perfect, at least you look darn good.

Lulu*s Chic and Repeat Blue Backless Dress, $47. Kate Spade New York Kiss Me Stud Earrings, $39.99. Kate Spade New York Park and Lex Cuff Bracelet, $88. Dogeared Four-Leaf Clover Charm Necklace, $58. AEO Gold Ankle Tie Gladiator Sandle, $29.99. NARS Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte, $32. Butter London Nail Lacquer in Shag, $15.

4.  For the Girl at the Lake

If you’re like me than you’ll be spending your day out on the lake and your evening anchored down to watch the fireworks. For this type of day, a swimwuit is probably a good idea. There are a bunch of stars and stripes swimsuits being sold right now, however I personally would rather invest in something I could wear beyond Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, such as this one from Sperry. With some sunnies and accessories, this Sperry swimsuit creates a nautical look that is perfect for swimming, skiing or relaxing by the water.

Sperry Top-Sider Ahoy, Matey Bikini Top $46.20, Bottom $40.60. Steve Madden White Mesh Swim Cover Up, $36.. Lord & Taylor Sterling Silver Anchor Studs, $16. Sperry Top-Sider Sandbar Anchor Dial Leather Strap Watch, $110. Tommy Hilfiger Woven Rugby Stripe Tote, $50.99. Ray-Ban Gold Tone Aviator Sunglasses, $160. Rainbow Flirty Braided Leather Flip-Flop, $51.95.

A favorite phrase at ND is “God, Country, Notre Dame”, and the Fourth is a perfect time to honor that second part. Whatever you decide to do and whatever you decide to wear I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourself. Just remember what Miley once said…
