The 11 People You Run Into at Parties

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

Collegiettes: Summer has come.  Time for beachy days, bonfire nights, and the vanishing of the ever-looming cloud that is schoolwork.  The parties will last longer, be more extensive, and often be full of vibrant people.  Here’s a list of the people you will run into on your partying endeavors:

1.  The person who stands around taking selfies.

Ever since the invention of the selfie stick, the selfie game has become even more real in our generation.  Guaranteed, there will be at least one person documenting every crazy thing going down.  Whether it be via Snapchat stories, tagged Facebook photos, or Instagram posts with captions that last for days, that crazy thing you did that one time and convieniently forgot, will be remembered by everyone else.

2.  The person who wants to fight everyone.

This is the person that when you see them coming, you turn around and walk the other way.  Maybe they have had one too many drinks, maybe they just have a lot of stuff going, but one wrong look, and they will be on you and ready to fight.  Watch out for these people!

3.  The person who can’t stop dancing.

No matter how stupid they look, nothing will stop their flow, even the person taking all the pictures.  They will dance until the end of the night, and every song will be their jam.  They will climb the furniture, and pull out moves from the 80s; it is definite, so might as well just go with it and have a good time!

4.  The person who is pretending to have fun but really isn’t.

You can’t help but feel bad for this person, but hanging around them just brings you down.  They are obviously out of their element and would rather be anywhere else.  Best to avoid if possible.

5.  The person who is taken and is texting their significant other in the corner.

Every so often they look up and remember they are at a party with people and look like a lost puppy.  Then they look back down at their phone again and go back into cyber world.  If you want to talk to them, find them at one of the lost puppy moments and try and strike up a conversation.  You might be able to snag them for a good five minutes.

6.  The person who is an emotional wreck.

This is often due to the number of drinks they’ve had.  But some people become very emotional at parties.  Tears flow, and the mood shifts.  If you can snap them out of it, go for it.  But if not, comfort them as much as you can without letting it ruin your night.

7.  The person who ate all the food.

Yes they know it’s a party and the food is for everyone.  Yes, they don’t really care.  If there is free food, this person is there stuffing their face, often leaving nothing in their wake.  Or, if anything, one cracker.  Thanks for the consideration.

8.  The person who thinks they are better than everyone else.

They find a fault in everything at the party, and make it known to everyone there.  They also make it known that they can do a better job at hosting.  Which if they could, they should! But they never do, they just like to complain all the time.

9.  The person who will not stop trying to get with someone.

No amount of rejections will stop them! They are the fearless flirters who will not go home alone.  Watch out for them, because they often appear smooth as silk that night, but might be greasy meatballs in real life.

10.  The couple making out in the corner.

Okay guys, we don’t need to see all that PDA.  Go get a room or something, or take it home please.  You are just reminding all of us Single Sally’s how alone we really are.

11.  The person who doesn’t know anyone.

This person is very shy, and is not the first to reach out to try and make new friends.  Even at our age there are people who don’t know everyone, so try and reach out to them! You might just make their night!
