Your Galentine’s Day Itinerary

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

February never fails to bombard us with hearts and chocolates and the reminder that “the day of love” is right around the corner. But if you’re living the single life, then you know February 13th is the day that really matters: Galentine’s Day! Filled with just as much chocolate and fun, Galentine’s Day is a time to get together with the girls and appreciate each other by having a good time. So, instead of curling up in bed with Netflix and a pint of Ben and Jerry’s like last year, get out there and have some fun!

When it comes to planning a perfect Galentine’s Day, Chicago has a ton to offer. From swanky restaurants to cool hangout spots you never even knew existed, there’s plenty of ways for you and your group of friends to celebrate.

So, check out this list of awesome Galentine’s Day ideas that just might make Monday your favorite day of the week!

1. See a Movie Together

Where: Evanston Cinearts on Maple Avenue

What: Hidden Figures, La La Land, Moonlight

If you’re trying to keep it simple but still want to do something fun, round up the girls and head downtown to enjoy a movie with some of that buttery movie theater popcorn. Whether you’re feeling something fun, light, empowering, or adventurous there will be something great for you and the gang enjoy this Galentine’s Day.

2. “Treat Yo’ Self” to a Shopping Spree

Where: Magnificent Mile, Handmade Market

Donna Meagle would not approve if you didn’t spend Galentine’s Day treatin’ yo’ self! The Magnificent Mile is filled with everything from clothing stores to candy shops and makes for a perfect walk-about day with the girls. Even if you’re not a shopaholic, Chicago’s Handmade Market has plenty of trinkets and booths where something is sure to catch your eye.

3. Meet Up at a Restaurant

Where: First Slice Pie Café Mini Pie flights, Chicago Waffles

In honor of Leslie Knope, who started this fantastic tradition, invite the girls out to a restaurant where you can all enjoy a tasty meal together. This is also the perfect time to pass out any hand-crafted cards you might have made each other (points from Leslie). Whether you choose to keep in the Knope spirit and head over to Chicago Waffles or you decide to go down to First Slice Pie Café where you can try four mini pie slices for only $7, you’re sure to have an amazing Galentine’s Day.

4. Party It Up

Where: Anastasia Boutique Galentine’s Day Party

Looking to celebrate female empowerment and still have some fun? Dress up for a night of fun and laughter (and shopping) at the Anastasia Boutique Galentine’s Day Party, where guests receive dessert, champagne and special Valentine’s Day card. Not to mention, the party will donate 20 percent of its proceeds to Planned Parenthood of Illinois.

5. Do It All

Where: Galentine’s Day at Siena Tavern

If you’re looking for a little bit of everything, you and the girls can enjoy mimosas, brunch bites and shopping at Siena Tavern. You can even get hair and makeup makeovers, and all for only $25. It’s the perfect way to start off the day and treat yourselves to a day of pampering and fun.

And, if all else fails, Galentine’s Day can still be celebrated with a Friends binge marathon, surrounded by all your best friends — and lots of ice cream. So, whether you choose to head out for a night on the town or stay in and watch your favorite movies on the couch, spend some time with the girls this Galentine’s Day. It’s the perfect way to spread some love.
