What to Wear for Different DM Blocks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

You know you have yet to fully embody the DM spirit if you don’t have a wacky outfit planned out for each of the 10 block themes. If you’re crunched for time and don’t know what to wear, here are a few easy suggestions on how to come up with unique outfits catered to this year’s themes.

Thrift Shop

Block 2 is all about embracing Macklemore’s famous ode to looking good while dressing bad. In order to recreate some of Macklemore’s crazy looks in his video, search your closet for any tacky prints, onesie pajamas, or anything with a hint of leopard, zebra, or fur—the more outrageous, the better!

Lets Get Weird: Jhortz and Wizards

Wear jhortz, be a wizard, or just be something weird during Block 4. Look for any pair of jean shorts in your wardrobe, or cut up any old jeans you have lying around and create your own. To obtain the wizard look, search for any big robes, capes, or old costume hats. If you really want to get creative, get a large piece of fabric and make your own wizard robe or cape. To complete your magical look, don a pair of Harry Potter-esque glasses.

Mickey Mouse Club

Block 5 is all about embracing our favorite Disney characters, both old and new. Look in your closet for anything with a hint of Disney, and top your outfit off by wearing a pair of Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse ears. If you’re looking to be a bit more creative, dress up as your favorite characters by recreating their signature looks using American Apparel basics. To stretch the theme a little further, dress up as one of the mouseketeer-turned-popstars of the Mickey Mouse Club, and try recreating Britney Spears’ classic schoolgirl look from her “Baby One More Time” video.
