For Those Who Still Need a Halloween Costume

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

Halloween is probably one of the most celebrated holidays on college campuses nationwide, but just because everyone knows it’s coming does not mean that everyone is prepared. College students are perpetually late: late to class, late to meetings and definitely late to costume preparation. If you’re anything like me, and you wait till the morning of Oct. 31 to find a costume, Halloween can be … intimidating. But don’t fear, even the most unprepared can still look good on Halloween. If you need some inspiration, here are a few things that you probably have lying around your house or dorm that can double as a costume for the night.

1. Ears, Literally Any Ears

I know that this is kind of a stereotype of girls on Halloween, but there is a reason that it is so popular. Whether you have cat ears, bunny ears, dog ears or literally any other pair of ears, just coordinate your outfit and you will instantly look like you dressed up. And believe me, if you don’t have a pair of ears, almost all of your neighbors do.

2. Fake Blood

You could get the real kind from a Halloween store or Amazon Prime, but a red marker or lipstick will also work. A red marker could be hard to get off, but it will definitely make any costume look Halloween-ified.

3. Glitter! Glitter! Glitter!

Maybe you’re an alien? Maybe you’re a disco dancer? Maybe you’re a mermaid? Regardless of what you tell people or make your Instagram caption, you definitely won’t look like you put your costume together 10 minutes before you ran out the door.

4. Pajamas

If you have a semi-presentable pair of pajamas, throw them on and call yourself Sleeping Beauty. Bonus points if you have an eye mask!

5. Jersey

Throwing on any sports jersey and calling yourself an athlete is just about as easy as it could get. I guarantee someone on your floor or in your house has one that you can borrow, meaning you instantly have a costume to wear. I hate to admit it, but there is a reason that frat boys like to wear jerseys so much.

Halloween has the annoying tendency to fall right in the middle of midterms and a million other things, so it is always hard to think about it far enough in advance to plan out your costumes. Even though it can feel like you are under a lot of pressure to look good, it is really as simple as searching your room and finding simple things that can turn into easy costumes.

Happy Halloween!
