Can you explain to us Zeta’s philanthropy event called Light the Way?

Light The Way is a luminaria walk that takes place on Mother’s Day every year, benefiting Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. At sunset, Sheridan Road is lined with luminaria bags decorated with pink ribbons, on which are written messages of love, support, encouragement, and hope. This event is meant to celebrate and support those who are fighting, as well as memorialize those who have lost their battles with Breast Cancer. The walk begins at Tech at sunset and usually ends at the Rock. This year, however, the event has been expanded, and will now include a silent auction/raffle as well as a speaker. I’m incredibly excited for this part of the event, since Lindsay Avner, the Founder and CEO of Bright Pink, will be the speaker.

In what ways are you involved with Light the Way?

I’m the Director of Philanthropy for my chapter, so I am in charge of organizing the event. It’s a lot of work, but totally worth it!

What should people expect?

Overall, this event strives for a message of hope. I think people should expect a very beautiful and touching evening. While obviously Breast Cancer is a horrible thing to have to fight, I’d like to think of this event as a celebration of life; something with a more uplifting, hopeful takeaway.

We’re excited to see all of the hard planning come to life! What has been your favorite part?

My favorite part was definitely getting Lindsay Avner as the speaker. She is absolutely incredible and has made such a huge difference in the lives of those affected by Breast Cancer, and I am beyond honored that she’s choosing to support this event.
