How was your experience in Dance Marathon freshman year?
I was on the Dancer Relations commitee last year. It was the most incredible experience to see so many diverse people from the Northwestern community come together under one cause. My favorite moment was during the last block when the final fundraising total was revealed. The energy in the tent was overwhelming and it was great to see everyone hugging and excited about how far they’d come.
What made you want to apply to be a DM Emcee?
NUDM was definitely one of the most rewarding and heartwarming experiences. I had a phenomenal 30 hours so I wanted to be even more involved this year. I couldn’t imagine not taking my dedication and love for NUDM to the next level.
What are you most excited for at DM this year?
All of it! I really believe every moment will be just as exciting as the next. Taking the stage for the first time, the final reveal, and just spending 30 hours on stage with my best friend.
How do you plan on keeping yourself, and everyone else, pumped up for 30 hours straight?
Last year I kept motivated by reminding myself of the greater purpose of NUDM. It helped me to think about the difference we’re making for the kids and their families. Also, a little energy goes a long ways. My emcee partner, Ethan, has this contagious energy that keeps me pumped. I hope that our excitement and Energizer bunny energy will keep the dancer psyched and dancing until the very end.
What advice would you give to a freshman doing DM for the first time?
Go in with a positive attitude. It’s natural to think it will be difficult, but that’s part of why it is so rewarding. It’ll be that much more fun and easy for you (and those around you) if you go in believing it will be the best 30 hours of your life (which it will be).
What else are you involved in on campus?
Global Engagement Summit, Delta Gamma, and Club Field Hockey.
What do you see yourself doing after graduation?
I really hope to find something that will allow me to be creative and travel. I wouldn’t do well at a nine to five desk job. I know it’s a lofty goal, but I’m a dreamer.
