This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

Name: Frank Avino

Hometown: Arlington Heights, IL

Birthday: January 4, 1993

Major: Mechanical Engineering and Economics

Relationship status: In a relationship

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

I really like 80‘s music, especially Depeche Mode and Blink-182. They’re great. And I love movies about the mafia.

Have you heard about the movie Gangster Squad that’s coming out soon?

Gangster Squad… I forget who’s in that, but I know Emma Stone is. Yeah, I’ll be seeing that.

What are your pet peeves?

People who use the words “I” or “me” too much–people who relate everything back to themselves. And people who make fun of the NHL.

What are you involved in on campus?

I’m a pledge counselor in Delta Chi and I’m the president of CCI. I also helped found a brand new pre-Wildcat Welcome program called Kairos with Sheil Catholic Center. The first one happened last September and I’m excited to do it again this fall.

What’s your favorite part of being CCI president?

Every Sunday night at 7, I get to give a recap with the rest of the board about what happened last week and what’s coming up in the future. I get to be the face of the board  and of CCI and I like to bring my positive attitude to the meeting. I bring color to the dorm.

You said you’re into sports. What’s your favorite team?

Definitely the Chicago Blackhawks. I go to at least a few games a year.

What’s your ideal date at Northwestern?

Dinner and a movie, it’s so classic and it works very well–I love movie dates. Todoroki is where I went last time and look where I ended up!

What’s the funniest thing that ever happened to you on a date?

Well, this was a sort-of date. It was my first dance, it was homecoming and my dad got me, my date and a bunch of our friends a reservation at this restaurant that’s popular with my immediate family… and also my grandparents. I think you can see where this is going. So, in the middle of dinner, my grandma and her five siblings walk in. My grandma is quite loud and boisterous and very Italian too. Of course, I have to give them a nice warm greeting and introduce them to all my friends, including my date. It was so embarrassing.

What do you find to be a girl’s most attractive qualities?

Smart. Articulate. I prefer brunettes to blondes. Very much so. Very athletic as well. If they played soccer or hockey or something in between, even in high school, that’s good.

Also, good musical taste. If they like alternative/rock/modern alternative…. if they have at least some interest then we can have good conversation.

What are words you live by?

“Preach always, use words when necessary”–St. Francis of Assisi. I went to catholic school, so we had to learn that one.
