Meet Campus Cutie: Olivia Ellis!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

Name: Olivia Ellis

Year: Sophomore

Major: Journalism

Certificate: Integrated Marketing Communications

Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri

What is your role on ASG and why did you decide to join this committee?
I am a member of both the Sustainability Committee and the Accessibility and Inclusion Committee! I joined ASG fall auarter of my sophomore year, mainly because I wanted to work on improving the student experience here. I joined Sustainability because I have always been really interested in the environment, and I wanted to promote sustainable living here on campus. Accessibility and Inclusion stood out to me because I think there are a lot of actions that need to be taken in order to ensure a positive, welcoming environment for every student on campus, regardless of race, sexuality or socioeconomic status. I think every student deserves an equal chance to succeed.  For each committee, I serve on different project groups. For instance, I am currently working on eliminating ground flyering from campus.

Why do you think ASG is important for the Northwestern Community?
I think ASG is making much needed improvements to incorporate the voices of all students, while increasing transparency in the organization. ASG is important because each committee works on projects that improve the Northwestern community.  Through ASG, students work with administration to implement initiatives on issues that affect the student body as a whole.

What else are you involved in on campus?
I am a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, as well as Northwestern’s service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega. Through APO, I complete at least 12 hours of service per quarter. I also write for North by Northwestern!

What is your favorite song off of Lemonade right now?
I’m really loving “Formation.” It’s hella fierce. Also, “6 Inch” because I love The Weeknd.

What show are you binge watching right now or want to binge?
PRETTY LITTLE LIARS. I know I’m about 6 years late to the game, but I’m very much (shamelessly) addicted. I’m almost caught up, so I’ll need a new show to watch soon! (Currently accepting suggestions!)

What do you think of the Dillo Day artists so far?
Honestly, I hadn’t heard of Anderson .Paak before they announced him, but I hear he’s cool so I’m excited! I only know one song by Schoolboy Q, but my roommate is super pumped. So, I have high hopes.

If Mayfest had an unlimited budget, who would you want booked for Dillo Day?
This is a tough one. How about Beyonce, Flume, Vampire Weekend and Kanye? That’s the dream.

What are your summer plans?
I’ve been offered an internship at Make It Better, a magazine in Winnetka! Other than that, I plan on sleeping, working out and exploring Chicago. But mostly sleeping.
