Make the Most of Winter Break

Being a Northwestern student and constantly tackling the seemingly never-ending line up of papers, presentations, and exams, you’ve probably put a lot of things you’d love to do on the back burner. But now, with three weeks of winter break in sight, you’ve got ample free time to finally get around to some non-academic productivity!

Reading a book

Can you remember the last time you were actually able to read a book for pleasure, not knowing that you were going to have to write an essay on it later? Me neither. Now, you can grab that novel you’ve been dying to read, curl up by a warm fire, and read away (guilt-free!).

Summer job searching

It might seem early, but this window of time is perfect for you to start looking around for potential summer jobs, contacting employers, and polishing up your resume. You’ll be grateful to have it out of the way when you come back for next quarter—one less thing to worry about!

Testing a recipe

With a whole kitchen to yourself, time to focus, and easy access to ingredients, flip through cookbooks or surf the web for as new dish you’ve never tried before. If you’re feeling even more ambitious, cook a multi-course meal for your family and friends! You’ll make them (and their stomachs!) incredibly grateful.

Going to the movies

The holiday season brings in tons of great new films, and you finally don’t have to wait for them to come out online. Grab your girls and an extra-large tub of movie theater popcorn to go see some great flicks—and potential Oscar nominees! For a list of some of this months new releases, click here.

Studying abroad?

For sophomores and juniors looking to go abroad fall of 2016 (a popular choice of quarter for Northwestern students), deadlines are sneaking up faster than you may realize. Check out the study abroad website for the official list of due dates and start cracking down on those applications. Bonjour, accomplishments!
