I have always been entranced by the pink, glittery Glossier aesthetic. Yet knowing nothing about makeup, I usually do not make big beauty purchases. I had heard my friends rave about Glossier products and have seen the pink stickers cover their computer, but I never thought to actually purchase something. I was perfectly happy with my $5 highlighter from Target.

But the other day, as I was scrolling through Facebook, an ad popped up for Glossier. Their eyebrow filler, “boy brow,” and highlighter, “haloscope,” were on sale. I saw it as a sign that I could become a beauty guru. I made an impulse buy and added the items to my cart. They came a week later in beautiful packaging. I opened the brown cardboard box to find a pale pink makeup bag, the two products I had ordered, and a silver Glossier laptop sticker.

On a night out (usually the only time I really wear makeup), I decided to test my new beauty purchases. I used boy brow (in brown) hoping to have Cara Delevingne-like eyebrows. To my surprise, my eyebrows looking pretty full after using the product. After performing my usual make up regime, I added haloscope (in quartz) as a finishing touch. It gave my cheekbones a shimmer while still looking completely natural.

I may have been late to the Glossier game, but I can now faithfully say that these products have lived up to the hype. Much of the appeal is in the aesthetic, but boy brow and haloscope are certainly worthy beauty products. While it was nice to go outside of my beauty comfort zone, I am not going to stop buying from Target’s makeup section (hey, the price is right).
