It’s that time of year — the dreaded finals season of the dreaded Winter Quarter. It might seem like the suffering is inevitable, but here are some tips to get through it:

  1. Get organized

It’s easy to get overwhelmed when the work starts stacking up. To avoid getting confused about deadlines and obligations, find an organization system that works for you — it can be a calendar, a to-do list, an app or anything your heart desires. Try to schedule out times to work on each class or activity and set your priorities.

  1. Keep up with the basics

Take care of yourself! With so much work, you might feel like you don’t need to sleep or don’t have time to eat. But you do. You deserve it, and you’ll function so much better when you’re well-rested and well-fed.

  1. Reach out for help if you need it

If you’re going through a hard time, there’s no shame in asking for help. Text your friend, seek out counseling, therapy or a support group. It can be scary, but know that there are people who care about you and can help. If you’re struggling academically, try reaching out to your professor, TA or advisor.

  1. Make space for yourself

Make sure you take breaks when you need it. Love exercising? Try to fit in a quick workout session. Love reading? Read a chapter whenever you need to take time off from your work. Just because you’re busy doesn’t mean you have to stop doing the things you care about. You can also try to make the study sessions more special by studying in a cafe with a fun latte to sip on.

  1. Listen to a killer study playlist

If you’re like me, you need some kind of background sound to focus. Making playlists is so so fun, and having music you like is a great way to keep you motivated to do what you gotta do. A fun idea is to make a unique playlist customized to each class’s vibe.

  1. Make plans to look forward to

There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel — finals season will eventually be over. You deserve a way to celebrate, so make some fun plans! You could have an outing with friends or even just treat yourself to delivery food and your favorite Netflix show.
