What makes you love Northwestern?
It has everything I could ever want. It has great athletics, amazing academics, an incredible student body, and a perfect location.

What was it like when you were crowned King? What was going through your mind?
It was pretty surreal. I couldn’t really believe it happened. The only thing I could think was “I spend way too much time in computer labs for this to make sense”

If you could do it again, would you?
Undoubtedly, meeting the court and the Homecoming committee was an honor. Those are really some top shelf individuals.

What do you look for in the ideal girl? What makes a girl appealing to you?
I like a girl who challenges me, whether it be intellectually or socially. I like a girl who knows how to stand on her own two feet, so it really means something when she lets you share the load a little bit.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Its hard to say. I’ve loved everything I’ve done with engineering, but I have a lot of interests elsewhere. I think whatever I end up doing, at the end of the day, I just want to be proud of what I’ve done.

We asked the girls this too, but what is left to do on your NU bucket list?
Haha, way too many things. I wouldn’t even know where to start.

One quote to sum up your life:
A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving.

Monica is a sophomore at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. She spent her early years growing up in a small town in Minnesota, but spent the last half of her life in Seoul, South Korea where she developed a city girl love for good food finds and fashion. Journalism has been a major part of her life, but she can also be found relaxing with a cup of coffee, watching movies, and spending time with loved ones. Though she has a tough exterior, Monica is actually a romantic who loves the power of words, the importance of strength in any endeavor, and who always wears her heart on her sleeve.
