Fusion’s “F is For…” Shakes Up The Weekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

This past weekend Northwestern’s own Fusion Dance Co. performed for excited crowds in Tech Auditorium. Their “F is For…” show featured amazing hip-hop dance numbers and popular rap and dance music. The 10 p.m. Saturday night show was packed with upwards of 300 people.  The Fusion dancers received well-deserved rounds of applause for their captivating performances and stellar choreography.

The show was well organized and each unique number gave the performance something new. However, Fusion member Alyssa Keller says this show presented a unique challenge for the group.

“This year the show was insanely early,” said Keller. “Normally, we have our show near the end of May. With this year’s show being in mid-April, we had significantly less time to prepare. Everything was really hectic, but we managed to work together as a team and have a great show.”

The group stuck to their “F is For…” theme with a creative alphabet block set design that complemented the performance nicely.  The show featured a great mix of heavy rap and smooth R & B. The group danced to popular songs like “Can’t Be Friends” by Trey Songz and a remix of “Satisfaction” by Benny Benassi.  The simple costumes were sharp and the choreography was even sharper. The audience responded enthusiastically to every number, with friends of the dancers shouting encouragement.

Fusion member Emily Picchietti said the audience’s energy really made the late night shows. She also said she enjoyed the different types of movement featured in the show.

“Although we specialize in hip hop as whole, each dancer comes from a unique performance background,” said Picchietti. “I feel that this year’s choreography really showcased that.”

The dancers showcased their talent, and looked fierce while doing it. Some of the dancers even received anonymous “Northwestern Crushes” after their hot performances. With their edgy hip-hop style, it’s clear Fusion brings a dance flavor to Northwestern that no one else can quite deliver.

“We had a ton of fun performing together, said Keller. “Putting the show together is a lot of work. You don’t have time for homework and you barely sleep, but to be honest, I’m really sad it’s over.”
