Pumpkin spice chai season is HERE! But it’s not all apple picking and jack-o-lanterns. Spooky season is riddled with haunted houses and horror movies. If you love Rory Gilmore sweaters and knee high boots, but don’t want Ghost Face knocking on your door, this one’s for you! Here are some killer fall movie recs that won’t leave you hiding behind your popcorn bowl.

1. First up, we have Dead Poets Society. This one’s a total classic! The dark academia aesthetic is everything — and the fall vibes are immaculate. The lives of a rowdy bunch of prep school boys will have you glued to your seat. But fair warning: you might want a box of tissues ready for this 1989 tearjerker.

2. I hope you like pink, because next up we’ve got MEAN GIRLS! I mean, October 3rd is practically a national holiday. Watching Cady Heron tackle high school and the Plastics is sure to put you in the fall frame of mind. After all, this film is totally fetch.

3. Next up is a personal favorite of mine: Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. Not only is this film visually stimulating and beautifully crafted, the cast is absolutely STACKED. The period drama follows the woes of the March sisters as they navigate a fickle world that underestimates the strength of women. All in all, this uplifting Oscar-winner is a must-see for fall!

4. If you’re in the mood for a fantastical fall film, this one’s for you. Twitches is a Disney channel original brewing with mischief and magic … perfect for the season! Following the lives of teenage twin witches is the optimal autumnal viewing experience.

5. Of course, this list wouldn’t be complete without the ultimate fall film franchise — HARRY POTTER! While I’d initially suggest an entire wizarding world movie marathon complete with themed snacks and your besties, that’s a pretty big commitment. Instead, try a rewatch of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. 152 minutes at Hogwarts sounds like a great way to spend an autumnal night.

6. Was it Miss Scarlet with the pumpkin spice in the corn maze? If you love a good murder-mystery, consider adding Clue to your fall film repertoire! Just like the board game with its namesake, the movie follows a sinister plot against 6 suspicious visitors at an antique manor. Consider placing some candy bets with friends on who did it!!

7. And finally, we have an all-time favorite of mine: Perks of Being a Wallflower! Words cannot express how much I love this cinematic gem. Logan Lerman’s take on Charlie displays incredible vulnerability and grace as he rides the emotional rollercoaster of high school. Once again, I’d recommend some tissues for this infinitely moving coming-of-age movie.

8. OK, time for a speed round!!! Here are a few of your typical “feel-good” fall films:

– Hocus Pocus

– The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

– Coraline

– Nightmare Before Christmas

– Coco

– Matilda

– When Harry Met Sally
