Every “Stranger Things” Character Playlist on Spotify, Ranked

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

We have not only been #blessed with Stranger Things 2, but there’s now playlists for each character on Spotify, and the best of the best is highly contestable. You can take a quiz on Spotify to identify which playlist best suits your tastes, but I’ve ranked them here based on completely subjective attributes.

1. Nancy’s Slaylist

Nancy might not be my number one, but her playlist definitely is. From Rihanna’s “Disturbia” to “Girl’s Just Wanna Have Fun”, this playlist is perfect for a girl’s night out, or just a cozy night in. Every song on it is fun and guaranteed to make you smile

2. Steve’s Morning Hair Grooves

Steve’s playlist is the perfect mix of 80s and modern, featuring Drake and Justin Bieber as well as Journey, getting ready to these beats would be a blast. Listen close to the lyrics and you might get some hints at how he feels about Nancy.

3 (TIE) Will’s Castle Byers Classics

This playlist is not subtle about Will’s journey, just look at titles “Mirror in the Bathroom” and “Upside Down & Inside Out”, but the whole playlist is not just topical, but actually kind of awesome, with classic rockers like Bon Jovi and David Bowie as well as The Black Keys.

3. (TIE) Billy’s Pedal to the Metal

Billy’s character may suck, but his playlist certainly doesn’t! Just the jams you’d expect him to blast from the car like he does in the show, and now you can blast them too! Expect to hear anything from Poison to Franz Ferdinand

4. Lucas’ Bike-Around Beats

This a fun, chill playlist filled with many references to both bicycles and love triangles. Chance and Calvin Harris make appearances, as well has The Who, Prince, and Michael Jackson. This is actually just a great mix of songs for hanging out and doing nothing.

5. (TIE) Eleven’s Breakfast Jams

Eleven’s playlist is perfect for her character, from  Lorde and HAIM to the Ting Tings, it feels like these power anthems would totally be playing in her head whenever she’s using her powers to stop the bad guys. It’s great for a workout playlist, which speaks to El’s unique brand of intensity and cool.

5. (TIE) Dustin’s Curiosity Door Jams

Dustin’s playlist features a lot of Talking Heads, not that we’d ever object to “Once in A Lifetime.” As for slightly more modern hits, there’s also a few Two Door Cinema Club hits. Overall, this feels like the playlist my dad would like the most, which I kind of like, actually.

5. (TIE) Mad Max’s Sk8 Sessions

Max’s playlist is just as cool as she is, featuring Pink Floyd, Bowie, and the Dead Kennedys

6. Mike’s Basement Beats

Mike’s playlist is all about those techno-electric sounding 80s songs, and its fun, but not the most fun of all the playlists. It as a lot more lesser known songs, which is cool and very mike, but not as fun to jam to.

7. (TIE) Hopper’s Nighttime Drive

This is exactly what you would expect from a guy like Hopper, from classics like Springsteen to country hits like Willie Nelson and Miranda Lambert, Hopper’s playlist is everything you would expect. Personally, not my favorite.

7. (TIE) Joyce’s Halloween House Party

This is a very specific playlist, but I never say no to the Monster Mash!

8. The Demogorgon’s Upside Downers

I love that even the Demogorgon has a playlist, but these are all super hardcore death metal style songs about death, bodies, and monsters. Subtle. But I’ll pass.
