Members of the Greek community bring different cultures, talents, hobbies, and experiences to Northwestern. The “….and I am Greek” campaign shows this diversity that makes up the 3,000 Northwestern students involved in Greek life.
The campaign challenges the expectation of an unvaried Greek community by sharing the stories of its students, faculty, and staff. The community’s students nominated the individuals featured in “…and I am Greek” last spring.
Junior Mark Morel is a member of Northwestern’s Interfraternity Council and involved in the campaign. His photo reads, “I volunteer at a local Evanston hospital…” “…and I am Greek.”
“I just wanted my story to show that the Greek community is more than parties and drinking, but more about what we all do on campus and in Evanston,” Morel said.
Kit Fox brings an interesting talent to the Greek community. His campaign says, “I formerly held the world record for cup stacking…” “…and I am Greek.”
“I hope that my story, as with all of the stories in the campaign, shows the diversity of Greek life here at Northwestern,” Fox said.
Participants in the campaign highlight a positive representation of members of the four Greek councils—the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and the Panhellenic Association (PHA).
Greek life at Northwestern began in 1859 and has expanded to 41 chapters. Today the IFC consists of 17 chapters, the MGC has 5 chapters, the NPHC has 7 chapters, and the PHA consists of 12. Every member of each chapter brings breadth and variety to the university.
