Now that our beloved Evanston is (FINALLY!) warming up a little, it’s time to remember all the wonderful things we can do here!

(I wish it was this nice!)

1. Forget the shuttle, walk to class!

Sure, it might take a couple extra minutes to get to class, but considering all the hours of the day spent inside doing homework and in class it’s probably best to take advantage of as much outside time as possible. Walking to and from class is guiltless, and good exercise.

2. Do homework on the lakefill

Though I wouldn’t recommend any computer-required homework (all that bright beautiful sun creates quite a glare!) reading a book for class becomes much less of an effort when it’s done basking in the sun’s rays. Bring out the SPF, the beach blanket and head out where you can hear the waves while you read!

3. Take a Saturday day trip into the city

It is really easy to take the train or the Chicago express shuttle downtown- and when the weather gets nice there’s nothing more enjoyable then walking around shopping and checking things out. You can see things like Millennium Park and Navy Pier or just wander around. No matter what you do, it beats doing it in the snow!

4. Go on a bike ride!

The city has great paths that go from Evanston (starting around South Beach) all the way downtown. By the lake it won’t get too terribly hot in the Spring and it’s a great work out. Not to mention the fact that a bike ride is just about the cutest date ever. Spring is the perfect time to start inviting someone cute to do fun things with you.

5. Hit the beach!

It’s still kind of cold to be bringing out the bathing suit and swimming (if you’re brave enough- do it for all of us!) but there’s no reason you can’t enjoy the sand. Bring a Frisbee or a ball and hang out down by the water at South or North beach. It’s a great way to procrastinate and something fun to do even if you have to read.

Journalism has been a major part of her life, but she can also be found relaxing with a cup of coffee, watching movies, and spending time with loved ones. Though she has a tough exterior, Monica is actually a romantic who loves the power of words, the importance of strength in any endeavor, and who always wears her heart on her sleeve.
