What You Need To Know for the Super Bowl LII

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

The New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles meet again, this time in the Super Bowl LII (52). In lieu of all of the Super Bowl parties, here are some things that you probably need to know, whether you’re a football fanatic or don’t even know who Tom Brady is.

1. Super Bowl LII will be held on February 4th.

The Super Bowl will start at 6:30 pm EST on NBC, Sunday, February the 4th.

2. The Patriots and Eagles have been in the Super Bowl together before!

In Super Bowl XXXIX (39), the Patriots and Eagles played one another with a final score of 24-21 and a Patriots win.

3. This is Tom Brady’s 8th Super Bowl appearance!

While only five of these have ended as wins, Tom Brady currently holds the most Super Bowl wins for any quarterback in the NFL, and this year he has earned another title as the first quarterback over 40 to start in a Super Bowl.

4. The Eagles have won 0 rings.

The Eagles have been to two other Super Bowl’s (‘81 and ‘05), but lost both of them. Though the Patriots know the pressure of the Super Bowl, winning five Super Bowl games previously, there is still a chance for the Eagles to pull through.

5. Justin Timberlake will be headlining the halftime show!

Following up artists like Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake is taking the stage again for Super Bowl LII!

6. Rob Gronkowski might be out of the game.

Rob Gronkowski (affectionately known as Gronk), one of New England’s best receivers, was taken out of the last game because of a concussion. Gronk might not be playing in the Super Bowl and this is definitely a cause for panic for New England fans.

7. If you don’t already know, everyone hates the Patriots.

Everyone loves hating on the Patriots for various reasons, and Super Bowl LII has given everyone quite a stir due to this winning reputation. This has caused most of the United States, except for New England and oddly enough North Dakota, to root for the Eagles this year.

8. Is Bill Belichick retiring?

Bill Belichick is arguably the best coach in NFL history, but will he retire after Super Bowl LII? Belichick and Tom Brady have established a legacy together in New England for 18 years now and during that time have become the first coach/quarterback pair to go to eight Super Bowl’s together. It’s no secret that his time as a coach is coming to a close, but are the rumors that he will retire true? No one will know until after the Super Bowl, but if Tom Brady says he’s playing until his mid 40’s, I’m sure Belichick would want to be there to ensure that.
