Stylish Spring Suggestions for the Working Girl

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

Now that it’s finally warming up, the windows of Newbury Street and the Prudential Center will start to display mannequins donning flowery, bright outfits and cute prints. This is usually around the time that you start to wear your maxi shirt and denim jacket combo to class, but that seems a little too casual for your co-op. However, just because you are on co-op doesn’t mean you need to dress boring. There are plenty of ways to incorporate spring trends into your work wardrobe and brighten up the office!

The Work Appropriate Dress

Getting one (or four!) colorful dresses to wear to work is an essential basic for spring/summer. You can dress your look up or down with blazers, shoes, accessories, and cardigans, making the piece very versatile! Above are two options I feel work for both body types. A dress that cinches at the waist and comes out at the hips is better for someone with curves while a sheath dress is best for someone tall and straight. A dress is also comfortable for when its very warm out compared to long pants or a pencil skirt.

Spring Light Coat

The second essential basic is a jacket for spring. This jacket should be durable enough to last through April showers and light enough so that you aren’t sweating through your outfit on the T. I really like trench coats because they are more mature looking than your Northface rain jacket and look great on everyone.

Prints

The best part of Spring is getting to add colorful designs to your usual black/navy/gray attire. This is best to do in moderation. For instance, pairing printed pants with a matching plain colored sweater or button down. It’s also a great way to show off your personality.

Also, check out the Lilly Pulitzer line debuting this Sunday, April 19th at Target for cute printed pieces to add to your wardrobe. They have tons of options and it is very affordable. Most items range between $30 and $40.

Accessories

Accessories are another great way to show off your personality. One thing you may want to update is your work bag, especially if it got worn out from the horrible weather. Vera Bradley and BaubleBar have a whole range of options at varying prices.

Shoes

Bye bye boots! You can finally wear cute flats and heels without worrying about your feet freezing or ruining them in the snow. While black is great, lighter colors are also nice for Spring time. Charlotte Russe has great options if you want to be less worried about getting your shoes dirty, however you can also keep shoes at the office and wear sneakers or flip flops for your commute.

Casual Friday

Here are some options for everyone’s favorite day of the week! If your office allows you to wear jeans, here’s a cute option. Also, if your office is pretty casual, you may be able to wear these comfy looking joggers (above) that are in style right now.
