Ribbons on the Runway

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

On Sunday, February 26, the Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority will be hosting its 3rd annual Ribbons on the Runway fashion show at 7pm in the Curry Ballroom.

I know what some of you may be thinking: sorority girls parading down a runway, wearing this year’s hottest trends–sounds like Boylston Street on a Friday night, right? But Ribbons is not your typical fashion show.

Yes, many sorority girls will be in attendance, but it’s not limited to just Greek life. AEPhi invites both girls and guys from many of Northeastern’s clubs to participate in this event. You may even see a Her Campus writer or two working the catwalk, as we will be a sponsor of the event this year!

The show comes at a perfect time, right as (hopefully) spring starts to roll around, so come and get inspired by all of the great new looks! The fashions featured will come from many local boutiques, including Newbury Street’s Bobbles & Lace, in addition to fashions from the models’ own closets. This year, the event includes themed segments, ranging from “Boston Wear” (think Red Sox, Bruins, and Celtics gear) to a “Wear Your Letters” feature. Boston stylists are donating their services for hair and make-up prep before the show.

What makes Ribbons a worthwhile event is not just the fashion, but the philanthropy it supports. All of the proceeds from the night are donated to Sharsheret, a non-profit organization that provides for Jewish women diagnosed with breast cancer. “Sharsheret” means chain in Hebrew, and the foundation helps connect Jewish women battling this disease to each other as well as other support groups.

The event will include a silent auction, beginning once the doors open until the end of the show. Attendees can bid on gift cards, jewelry, bags and more. Other highlights include DJ Luxe of Umbria fame, a slideshow, and a breast cancer survivor as a guest speaker.

Tickets to this event can be purchased on myNEU starting Feb. 12 for $7, or at the door the night of the show for $5. AEPhi will also be selling $5 tickets everyday from Monday, Feb. 20 to Friday the 24th on the ground floor of the Curry Student Center. The doors open at 7pm on Sunday and the show starts at 8pm. So take off those sweatpants, put on an outfit that belongs in Fashion Week, and come support this great event! And be sure to bring some extra cash for anything sparkly that may catch your eye during the auction!
