In early September 2020, Selena Gomez launched her Rare Beauty makeup line. The beauty industry went abuzz.

Why? Because her brand is not like the average celebrity makeup line.

First, Selena curated her makeup line to be cruelty-free and ethically-produced. The ingredients in her makeup products are all vegan and free of animal testing; her line is approved by PETA.

The packaging is also very unique. The products have rounded applicators that make them easier to open. They are designed this way for people who suffer from lupus and arthritis and have limited strength in their hands. The functionality is very impressive as well, inside the products there is a small hole that prevents product waste!

On top of all these perks, Rare Beauty is one of the more affordable brands in the makeup industry. All products on the line are offered at $29 and under. The most expensive product is the liquid touch weightless foundation for $29, and the least expensive product is the $5 blotting sheets.

Her brand has created the Rare Impact Fund which vows to dedicate 1% of product sales to improving access to mental health services. This fund has the goal of raising $100 million in a span of 10 years.

She made a point to have makeup products that enhance your natural beauty. These products include lip tints, lipsticks, foundations, and concealers. The brand prides itself on loving your authentic self and distinct physical attributes. This appreciation of differences is reflected in diverse shade ranges which include 48 different skin tones.

The public’s response has been positive so it enticed me to try out some of the products. Some of the products on the line I tried were the dewy lip balm, lip souffle lipstick, and makeup sponge.

I purchased the Empathy lip balm. This lip balm is moisturizing and feels light on the lips. It has good pigmentation that lasts throughout the day. Even after reapplication, my lips felt smooth and creamy.

The second product I tried out was the lipstick in the Ascend shade. The color was bold, rich, and popping. The consistency was velvety. I wore it throughout the day and did not get dry lips until it was reapplication time.

The last product I tried out was the multimasking makeup sponge. In comparison to the line’s beauty blender, it was cheaper by $6 — priced at $14. I felt it was easy to use and blended my makeup well. The application of my makeup was simple and fast as a result of this product.

Overall I feel that the Rare Beauty makeup line is worth checking out. Not only is it cruelty-free, vegan, and affordable, but it has an impactful brand goal and high-quality products. You can find Rare Beauty products online at Sephora.
