Everyone loves getting mail (except when it contains bills), especially care packages from family and friends back home.

Nothing says “I miss you” and “I’m thinking of you” like a care package from family or friends. Why not spread the love and send some care packages to your friends at different schools for the holidays! Maybe send one for the major holidays or whenever you feel your friend could use a pick-me-up. Here are some items that are always a hit among college students and are affordable, too:

Snacks/Candy:

Everyone loves candy, so why not treat your friends to some as well. CVS has packages of candy that sell for 99¢ as well as snacks that are often on sale. Keep in mind that while chocolate is an essential part of life, it can melt. Perhaps save it for the colder months.

Movies:

Before you say how expensive DVDs are (and I agree, they are), hear me out. Many stores such as Target, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. sell DVDs that have 2-4 movies per disc and they sell them at great prices (think $5-10). Sometimes you just need a good, classic movie to rewind from a long week, and these are perfect for that.

Decorations:

Decorating your room is one of the most exciting part of the holiday season. A decorative strand of halloween lights can easily be found at target or grocery stores, such as these ones.

Hand-Written Cards:

Hand-written cards are one of those things that are unfortunately a rarity these days. But I know I’m not the only one that still gets excited when they receive one. Surprise your friend with a card and a few of the items above and you are sure to make their day. Personal experience tells me that these packages always seem to arrive at just the right time.

Wrap, pack, mail, repeat!
