A Night With Amy Schumer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

On September 17th, Northeastern’s fraternity, Kappa Sigma, presented A Night With Amy Schumer, as its annual comedy show. Amy first appeared in the spotlight when she competed in the fifth season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, in which she placed fourth. But just like the great Jennifer Hudson, Amy was the breakout star of her season, going on to participate in the roasts of Roseanne and the somehow still relevant Charlie Sheen, before landing her own comedy series Inside Amy Schumer which has been picked up for a second season on Comedy Central.

Amy is fearless when it comes to her material. During her performance she addressed almost every taboo topic you can think of: rape, eating disorders, Miami, and abuse. Her routine appealed to everyone, delivering joke after joke that had both her male and female audience members in stitches. She really embraced the fact that she was performing in front of a college audience and talked about hook up cultures, blacking out and just embracing the freshmen fifteen and getting laid. While the show may have been short, Amy made it a night to remember. And now that Amy is slated to appear as the lead in Judd Apatow’s new untitled film, it’s clear that Amy is here to stay.

“Nothing good ever happens in a blackout. I’ve never woken up and been like, ‘What is this Pilates mat doing out?'”
