It is a truth universally acknowledged that a college student no matter their fortune is in want of money. Here are a few quirky scholarships to help bring in the dough.

1. Zombie Apocalypse

Whether you admit it or not, chances are you’ve at least thought about what you would do in  a zombie apocalypse. If you are willing to write those thoughts down, you could walk away with $2,000. Open here, no dead inside.

2. STARFLEET

Since 1990, the International Star Trek Fan Association has been giving away scholarships to devoted “Trekkies.” Scholarships are awarded in amounts of up to $1,000 with all applications due June 15. Details can be found here.

3. Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation

If you’ve ever been called a know-it-all or a walking dictionary, this is the place for you. The Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation awards cash prizes up to $2,500 to the winners of their daily trivia quizzes. Test your knowledge here.

4. Do Something

Have you ever wanted to help make a difference in the world? At DoSomething.org, you can do just that and get scholarships that range from $1,000-$5,000. Click here to pick a campaign.

5. L. Ron Hubbard presents writers and illustrators of the future.

Odds are that as an elementary student you had to write and/or illustrate what the future would look like. Time to step it up a notch with these $500-$5,000 scholarships offered by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. However, don’t get ahead of yourself; qualifications are located here.

6. Bowling

The Dude isn’t the only bowler who could get his hands on a lot of money. Prizes vary each year. Rules and regulations are located here.

7. Foreclosure

Since the crash of 2008, the housing market has been both criticized and praised…. Foreclosure.com wants to hear your opinions and awards $1,000 and $5,000 scholarships to essay winners. Submit here before it closes.

Honorable Mention:

1. Create-A-Greeting-Card

For those of an artistic persuasion, this $10,000 scholarship is for you. This year’s application has already closed, but a new one is opening here soon.

2. National Potato Council

You don’t have to be from Idaho to get in on this scholarship. Show what you have done to help the potato industry and you could earn $10,000. Applications can be found here.
