The long awaited opening of New York’s most popular bakery is finally here! On Feb. 19, Levain Bakery opened at 180 Newbury St. in Boston’s Back Bay. Founded in 1995, the company now has nine locations and is expanding on the East Coast. Well known for their crispy cookies with gooey insides, I had to give Levain Bakery a try!
Located on a road filled with luxurious shops and gourmet restaurants, Levain is a great place to go for a sweet treat after a shopping spree or dinner with friends. I went to Levain after dinner at Serafina — a restaurant I highly recommend — and it was a great end to my night. I expected the line to be extremely long shortly after their grand opening, but I only had to wait ten minutes.
Offered on the menu was an assortment of five cookie options: chocolate chip walnut, dark chocolate chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, dark chocolate peanut butter chip, and two chip chocolate chip. Although they all looked delicious, I decided to try the dark chocolate peanut butter chip and the classic two chip chocolate chip.
The cookies were the perfect texture — crispy on the outside, yet so gooey on the inside. I enjoyed both the peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies, but the dark chocolate peanut butter chip was my favorite. The bitterness of the dark chocolate perfectly complemented the saltiness of the peanut butter. Not only were the cookies huge, they were also served warm and filled with chocolate chips. Each cookie is $4, but they are well worth the price for their size and delicious taste. The cookies are 6 oz. and can be shared with a friend, if you’re not too hungry.
While most well known for their cookies, Levain Bakery also sells homemade breads, loaf cakes, and pastries. Levain cookies can be found in grocery stores and are available for shipping around the United States. I highly recommend Levain Bakery and I will be returning!
