As a movie buff, I’m constantly scrolling through Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video to find a new film to watch. Recently, I’ve added Kanopy to my list of streaming services. Kanopy is a streaming video platform for public libraries and universities that offers films and documentaries, and it’s free for all Northeastern students! To make your free account go to https://www.kanopy.com, press “get started,” then “find your university,” select Northeastern, and lastly make an account using your NU email. They have a plethora of cool indie movies, foreign films, and documentaries I’m eager to watch. Here are some films to check out on Kanopy!

This heartfelt comedy explores the turbulent relationship between a struggling mother and her rebellious teenage daughter.

Moonlight (2016)

This film depicts three defining chapters in a young black man’s life as he comes of age in Miami.

The story of six-year-old Moonee and her young single mother, Halley, who live in a budget on the outskirts of Disney World.

A love story between Omar, a young Palestinian freedom fighter who is forced to work as an informant after the death of an Israeli soldier, and his best friend’s sister, Nadia.

This heartbreaking film details the quest of a high school teacher to find the mother of her adopted daughter during the final months of the military dictatorship in Argentina.

She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry (2014)

This provocative documentary is centered around Second-wave feminism in the United States during the late 1960s.

Chasing the Moon (2019)

This historical docuseries tracks the early years of the space race, focusing on America’s struggle to catch up with the Soviet Union, in the context of the Cold War.

These are just some of the movies on Kanopy that I found very worthwhile. Happy watching!
