Fall Festivities in Beantown

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

How did you spend your summer vacation?

A) Soaking up sun at the cape
B) Jet setting to exotic locations
C) Poolside with your gals
D) In an office building and/or classes

If you are like me and countless other Northeastern collegiettes™, it’s highly likely you chose dreaded option D.

Having little or no exposure to the summer sun left you feeling down and out? Have no fear! I have a list of ways to help make up for your summer of florescent lighting, stale coffee, and homework overload. Just because summer is over doesn’t mean that you can’t find fun in the other three seasons; I’m here to steer you in the right direction to an Autumn that is sure to kick your Summer’s sorry butt.

This fall, make it a point to take advantage of the unique fall happenings that are exclusive to Boston and Northeastern.

CollegeFest

It’s that time of year again when all the Collegiettes™ of Boston have finally settled into their routines of balancing homework with a social life, and have just begun to tap into the crazy thought process of your professors. Aside from the obvious blunders of being a college student, we always have the no-fail fun of CollegeFest to look forward to.

Come check out the 20th annual CollegeFest, October 1st & 2nd, featuring all your favorite vendors from years past (Sabra, Contiki, Rent the Runway, etc.) plus new exhibitors like Spotify, Sumoskinny.com, and 3 Scoops Café and Gallery.

PLUS BIG NEWS!  Her Campus will be there! Stop by and say hello during their Collegiette™ Fashion Show!

Normal ticket price is $10, but if you swing by the Northeastern bookstore you can pick up the little red college coupon book and score 2 for 1 entry! Scan the event’s website for the opportunity to nab free admission! With all the freebies and fun they have in store for you this year, this is not an event you’ll want to miss.

The Great New England Outdoors
If being confined to a cubicle has got you pining to get back to nature, take advantage of the beauty that is a New England Fall. Support local farmers (and your wallet) and go apple picking at a local orchard.  Many of these orchards also have corn mazes, which you can enjoy with friends in daylight, or brave at night, as it gets closer to Halloween.
Visit aboutapples.com to find a pick-your-own apple orchard near you.
Visit pumpkinpatchesandmore.org to find out about picking your own pumpkins as well as other fall festivities in the area!

Head of the Charles Regatta
For some free outdoor fun, head on down to the 47th Annual Head of the Charles Regatta. Located right on the Charles, this is the perfect opportunity to partake in a local tradition of excellence (not to mention scope out the guns on some of the cutest and brightest college men from across the river.)  Make a day of it and enjoy the crisp autumn air and the technicolor Boston foliage. Walk to a nearby food vendor or restaurant to top off what is sure to be a fantastic outing. The regatta includes over 7,500 rowers from over 600 Universities worldwide making it among the most exciting and well-attended events of its kind.  So grab a blanket, some buddies, and defintely a camera and head down to the Head of the Charles.

than Harpoon’s 22nd Anniversary Oktoberfest. A $20 cover goes a long way with plenty of beer (cheap pints), German cuisine, and Keg bowling. Admission also gets you a souvenir and a drink ticket.  Bands attending this year’s festival include Will Dailey and The Rivals, Otis Grove, and even an appearance from Howl At The Moon Dueling Piano Show!

September 30th-October 1st
