With one week of Boston Restaurant Week down and one week to go, it’s time to start making the tough decisions on where you should spend your hard-earned money. Allow me to suggest Post 390, an Italian restaurant located in Back Bay, as one of your destinations for this exciting and food-filled week. For a mere $20.13 for a 3-course lunch or $38.13 for a 3-course dinner, you can enjoy their delectable cuisine and dine in this exquisite restaurant.
Before I talk about their food, let’s talk about their aura. Post 390 is a trendy, two floor restaurant with full bars on each floor, a coat check, and a warming fireplace. The overall environment is upscale, yet cozy and inviting. I went during the week at noon, and most of the patrons there were dressed in business casual attire, most likely taking a break from their nearby business jobs. What I liked about Post 390 is that their environment is versatile: it can serve as an fancy location to impress a client, but it also isn’t so luxurious that a group of college students looked and felt out of place. We sat at a beautiful, circular, corner table in front of walls that were windows, giving us a beautiful view of the John Hancock Tower and Trinity Church. Our table was adorned with a white tablecloth and a sparkling bottle of water, all very chic. The wait staff was sharp and attentive, promptly clearing away dirty dishes and offering us boxes for our leftover food (the boxes were quality and reusable, definitely a plus!).
Now that I’ve impressed upon you that this is a fancy yet inviting place to dine, let me tell you why you’ll want to come here to eat. I’ll go through what was eaten and give you a small preview of each dish:
Crisped Point Judith Calamari with Banana Peppers and Old Fashioned Tartar Sauce: a generous portion of perfectly fried calamari was presented amidst a few lemon slices, a hefty topping of yellow banana peppers, and a small bowl of thick, creamy, tartar sauce. The calamari was crispy but not overdone, with just the right amount of crunch to keep me coming back for more. The sauce certainly had a zing to it, which led me to only use it sparingly, but it was perfectly complementary to the calamari.
Post Burger with All Natural, Vermont Sharp Cheddar: a hefty sized burger (I’m guessing it was at least 3/4 of a pound), topped with a large leaf of green lettuce and expertly melted pieces of Vermont sharp cheddar cheese. Conveniently staked through the burger was an olive, a few pickles, and a small tomato, in case you’d like those extra condiments. Next to the burger was a good amount of thin, salty fries that were delicious.
Apple Dumpling with Vanilla Ice Cream, Cinnamon Sauce: literally amazing. Mouth watering. Jaw dropping. If you can’t tell, I’ve been saving all my fancy words of deliciousness for this section, and trust me, they belong here. The apple dumpling was half an apple cooked inside of a flaky pastry, sprinkled with cinnamon, next to a scoop of vanilla ice cream, with all of that sitting on top of a generous portion of cinnamon sauce. It was an absolutely flawless dessert, and I know the next apple dumpling I get will most likely fall far short of the standards of the one Post 390 has to offer.
Overall, the food here was quite worth the trip and kept me full for hours. My 3-course meal would’ve normally cost me $36.50, so being able to gorge myself on this delicious food for only $20.13 (plus drinks, tip, and tax) was quite the treat. Post 390 is conveniently located close to Copley Square, Back Bay Station, and the 39 bus, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t make the trip up to this Urban Tavern.
