No date? No Problem.
I am always so excited for a year when I am single on Valentine’s Day. Call me crazy but it’s better to be single when this romantic holiday comes around. I might sound a little selfish, but this is the perfect holiday for some unadulterated pampering.
For starters, quit your self-loathing, get off the couch and put away the Ben & Jerry’s. This year you are your own valentine. It is obviously important in a girl’s life to love herself, and it is especially important to treat herself to some of the finer things in life. February 14 is officially a day to devote to yourself.
- First things first. Get to Newbury St. ASAP because you are going shopping. The best therapy is a little retail therapy. Spend a little more than you would normally, you need this. Head to 344, and splurge on a cute outfit for going out. Why not even get a few outfits, and maybe some Steve Madden pumps to match.
- Pick up a new set of lingerie. No one besides you is going to see it, and that’s the best part. It’s been said that the best way to complete an outfit is to have a sexy matching pair of lingerie on underneath. Who cares if no one will be seeing it? You’ll know that it’s there and it will make you feel a little bit more confident (and hot) when you’re walking around the city.
- Grab a manicure and lunch! Every girl needs a good manicure once in awhile, so go sit, relax and be pampered. If you really want to spoil yourself, get a pedicure too! After your manicure, grab your biggest guilty pleasure for lunch. I have a million guilty pleasures when it comes to food, but the first place I would head to is Bolocco for a burrito.
- We all know the scene in the Sex and the City Movie where Carrie and Miranda are out to dinner on Valentines Day with no men and lots of red wine. Yes, yes and yes. If you have another single friend, make reservations with her/him at an Italian restaurant in the North End (see a list of restaurants here: http://www.northendboston.com/dine/restaurants/), and get a big plate of pasta with garlic bread. If you’re not feeling up to going out, then order in Chinese or Indian food and grab some movies like Legally Blonde or Erin Brockovich and watch some hot and single women become amazingly successful – without a man.
- Every Valentines Day needs to have something sweet, but those chocolates in red heart boxes don’t seem to satisfy my sweet tooth. Go get a red velvet cupcake at Georgetown Cupcakes on Newbury St. or head to the North End and get a cannoli or éclair at Mike’s Pastries (maybe get two..)
The bottom line is that if you’re single this Valentine’s Day, it is by no means the end of the world. You are in a great position to focus love and attention on yourself, and you’ll be so distracted that you might even forget about not having a significant other! Trust me when I say that this will be the best Valentine’s Day you’ve ever had!
