Ways to Beat The Desert Sun

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NMSU chapter.

The sun is out and shining bright now that it’s summer time. Which means you should take some extra precautions when being outside this summer!

Stay hydrated.

It’s very important that the body stays hydrated while out in the heat. To stay hydrated all day you must drink at least eight, eight ounce glasses of water. This is expected, so if you’re out in the sun all day, you might want to drink more if you feel any fatigue at all. Staying hydrated will keep you feeling active while you’re out in the summer heat.

Wear sunblock.

Ever had a bad sunburn and it hurt to move? Sunburns are caused by getting too much sun exposure and not protecting your skin. Wearing sunblock helps prevent from getting a nasty sunburn. Make sure you reapply sunscreen every two hours just in case because it won’t stay fresh all day.

Wear a hat or carry an umbrella.

The sun is not good for your skin; if you want to take extra precautions than just wearing sunblock, wear your favorite sun hat or carry an umbrella with you. This will keep your face and your shoulders in the shade so you won’t get too much sun exposure. The more the heat is on you, the more it affects your body and you could get sick.

Wear sunglasses.

Besides the sun emitting heat, it is also extremely bright. Wearing sunglasses can help your eyesight to see better in the sun’s bright light. Ever hear if you look at the sun you’ll go blind? Well that it’s true; don’t look at the sun for too long!

Have fun this summer and remember, you can beat the sun!
