Seven Ways to Celebrate GRL PWR

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NMSU chapter.

March is the designated month to celebrate and acknowledge women all around the world. What started as a day to celebrate women has now evolved into a whole month. Although women should be celebrated 365 days a year, 24/7, we’ll take it. So if you’re looking for ideas here are nine ways to celebrate and embrace femininity!

Research women in history

Women’s International Month celebrates current women and women who paved the way for all of us. This is the perfect opportunity to research real-life women who inspire us all.

Amelia Earhart: first female pilot to fly across the Atlantic Ocean

Eleanor Roosevelt: First Lady and vocal advocate for human rights, women’s rights, and children’s causes.

Hedy Lamar: Golden Age actress that helped co-invent a radio signaling device during WWII.

Naomi Parker: Inspiration whine “Rosie the Riveter”.

Anne Frank:  Young Jewish girl that documented her Holocaust experiences in her now-famous diary.

Lucille Ball: I love Lucy star, one of America’s top comedians with her show that had storylines about marital issues and women in the workforce.

Rosa Parks: Her defiance of segregation and not giving up her seat helped spark the Montgomery boycott.

Ella Fitzgerald: first African American woman to win a Grammy.

Rita Moreno: Only Latinx to earn the EGOT: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

Malala Yousafzai: Face gunshot survivor by the Taliban and advocate for human rights, women’s rights, and education.

Kamala Harris: first female Vice President.

Frame your favorite empowering quotes

You know that quote you love and just makes you feel strong, yeah that one, frame it! Print it and put a nice frame around it. Not only will it serve as nice room decor but it will be out on display to remind you daily about your worth!

Write yourself a love note

February just passed a month of love and self-love. Now that it’s March that doesn’t have to end there. Self-love is here to stay. Write a love letter to yourself to remind you that you are doing the best you can! Appreciate yourself, you deserve it!

Watch your favorite heroine movies

Another great way to celebrate this Women’s International Month is to watch your favorite heroine movies. Here are some great movies that celebrate women empowerment:

Erin Brockovich (2000)

Lady Bird (2017)

Wonder Woman (2017)

Little Miss Sunshine (2006)

Hidden Figures (2016)

The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Legally Blonde (2001)

Pitch Perfect (2012)

Mulan (1998)

Sex and the City: the Movie (2008)

A Promising Young Woman (2020)

Clueless (1995)

Miss Congeniality (2000)

Merida (2012)

I can go on, but you get my point.

Celebrate with your girls!

Galentine’s may be over but it’s not the right time to celebrate with your girl squad. Plan a girl’s night in or a night out. Maybe even a road trip! Celebrate together that you are all strong empowered women!

Lover of music, fur babies, and photo shoot sessions with friends. Easily mistaken for twin sister. I write as if I’m writing to my friend.

Writing is my thing and I hope it makes you laugh, feel understood, or is helpful to you.
