Ladies, we are amazing forces of nature. I mean not to be biased but women are pretty great, and it is empowering to know that women are becoming more of a force to be reckoned with, in today’s society. I must say that I am proud to be a woman, but how can I not be, when powerful female anthems exist? These are only a few girl power songs that I consider to be refreshing and empowering, with powerful messages that still live on today, despite the time that they were released or written.
1. Beyonce- Run The World (Girls) (2011)
`I don’t think a female anthem list is complete without the inclusion of this song. Whether you consider yourself a part of the “beehive” or not, you got to admit that this catchy ballad is hard to resist singing along to. The song is a celebratory anthem for women to be proud of who they are and not to be ashamed by the stereotypes or sexisim that is still alive today. This is an upbeat song that will make you want to release your inner Beyonce and will make you feel like you can conquer anything.
2. Alicia Keys-Girl On Fire (2012)
We all have trials and tribulations that we must overcome at one point or another. Therefore this song is perfect for those who need a little motivation to overcome these challenges, or those who want to celebrate their victory of said challenges. Keys, has stated that the song is special and empowering to her due to her experiences with motherhood. The song conveys a powerful message of being a strong independent woman and owning it.
3. Hailee Steinfeld- Love Myself (2015)
We all have our moments of insecurity and self doubt, but this song is a reminder that you are amazing and you should recognize that and love yourself before anybody else can do so. This song is an anthem because it promotes self love and it encourages women to find happiness within themselves before they can find it with anybody else. This is great song to blast on as a reminder of how truely amazing you are.
4. Fifth Harmony- BO$$ (2015)
Remember when this song was taking over radio stations everywhere? For a good reason, this song quickly became a female empowerment anthem that still exists in my most played playlist. This song celebrates women by evoking a message of independence and the idea of women working hard to get what they want. The song is both catchy and empowering and worth listening to when you’re feeling like a boss.
5. Katy Perry- Roar (2013)
This song is a fun and upbeat pop song that promotes female independence and the idea of getting back on your feet when you are knocked down. This song is a complete girl anthem that emphasizes that women can do anything with resilience and ambition. I recommend to blast this song when you’re in need of motivation.
6. Demi Lovato- Confident(2015)
Just like there are times that we may feel insecure, there are also times that we feel great about ourselves and confident. There is no shame in self love or confidence because as women we should be proud of who we are. This song embodies that so well, I recommend this anthem when you want to celebrate yourself and your greatness. The song is also written and performed by Demi Lovato, a woman who constantly promotes confidence and self love, which is both liberating and inspiring.
7. Aretha Franklin- Respect(1967)
This song is the definition of “an oldie but a goodie” and chances are you’ve probably heard it at least once or twice. I had to include this classic song on my list because it is about a powerful independent woman that is both inspiring and encouraging. This tune is also catchy and a timeless melody for women empowerment.
These are only a few female anthems, all sung by powerful women of different generations. I encourage you to listen to these ballads while you are out there conquering the world and hurtling the obstacles!
