How to Set Yourself up for Success!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NMSU chapter.

With the start of a new semester, many of us are scrambling to get our lives together. It is easy to feel overwhelmed and we may ask ourselves “how will I ever be able to do everything I need to do?” Below are some tips to get your life together and set yourself up for success!

  1. Do not overload your schedule!

This tip may be difficult to do, but it is listed as number 1 for a reason. If your schedule is overloaded, you will feel overwhelmed more easily and more often. You may have to give up essential “me time” because you already have so much on your schedule.

2. Get organized!

The easiest thing you can do to step yourself up for success is keeping track have what you have to do, and in turn keeping track of what you have done. The best way to do this is keeping an agenda or simply writing down daily to do lists of what you want to accomplish that day. Also, checking off those items on your to do list that you have completed is seriously so satisfying!

3. Sleep! Sleep! Sleep!

Rest is so important when you may be feeling overwhelmed with everything you have to do. If you do not get enough sleep it is more difficult to concentrate and generally you may feel more emotional and impulsive. Sleep deprivation increases anxiety and with that comes higher levels of stress and you may almost feel like you are “drowning”. Make the effort to sleep early. The best thing to insure a good night sleep is to have a bed time routine. No matter how messed up your day may have been as long as you have a bed time routine it should help you relax and send a signal to your body that it is time to sleep. Some great bedtime routines include taking a bath reading.

4. Make time for what you love!

Sometimes with a lot on our plate it is hard to make time for things that you love. Some of the most important things in your life you could place on the back burner and if it is left there too long it could burn in other words, passion you have now for certain things may go up in flames if you do not tap into the things you like to do often! Let’s say you really like writing. Take at least 15 minutes a day to practice writing on your blog or even in your journal.

The takeaway: Make sure to get things done while also taking care of yourself.
