How to Host the Best Friendsgiving Dinner Ever

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NMSU chapter.

Thanksgiving is almost here and while some people get to go home and spend this holiday with their families others have to stay on campus, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good dinner and some fun! If you are one of those persons who will be staying in campus for this holiday I suggest that you find some friends and you all get together for a friendsgiving dinner. If you have no idea this was a thing and its the first time you hear about it but want to try it, then keep on reading because I will show you how to host the most bomb friendsgiving dinner.

1. Make or get some decorations

Decorations are crucial for any kind of party, they bring a nice touch and some holiday mood to the room and since I know what its like being a broke college student here are three cheap and cute decorations that will make your room the cutest on in campus:

  • Pie Banner

Materials:

  • Construction Paper
  • Hot glue gun/ glue
  • Cord

The materials for this super cute pit banner can be easily found at the the dollar store and they will make your wall look amazing and with a full on thanksgiving mood.

  • Leaf Candle Mason Jar

Materials:

  • Mason Jar
  • Leaves
  • Mod Podge
  • Brush
  • Candles

Same as the craft before all of the materials can be found in the dollar store and they will make great center pieces or decorations for outside your dorm! Plus they are fall themes so you don’t have to take them off until Christmas!!

  • Give Thanks Table Runner

Materials:

  • White Marker or paint
  • Kraft Paper

You can put this super cute sign across your table and it serve as a tablecloth, the brown paper can be found at Hobby Lobby and you can use a 20% off discount!

2- Prepare Dinner

What is a friendsgiving dinner without dinner? You can divide the cooking task so that everyone can cooperate and have more fun, you can do it kind of a potluck or you could all slipt the cost of the ingredients and all cook together!  Here are 5 of my favorite recipes that can make a full meal for a tight  budget:

  • Dipping Pumpkin

You can buy a small pumpkin and clean it, once its clean fill it in with a dipping sauce of your choice and you could buy the vegetables individually and cut them or you could get a tray since they come in variety and already cut!

For this recipe you can see the instructions with the link, its pretty easy to make and it doesn’t require tons of ingredients!

Every thanksgiving dinner requires some turkey and potatoes right? This casserole is delicious and simple to prepare, the instructions are in the link.

Because we also need to throw some vegetables in the mix to be healthy but we don’t want to be thaaat healthy, this recipe is perfect for this! Simple, healthy and yummi , follow the link to see how these can be made.

To finish off the night make this rice krispy pie that tastes just like pumpkin pie!! It’s easy to do and it looks simply adorable!

3- Prepare some games!

After you finish eating you don’t want to go back home that quick, so having some games to play will be a fun way to end the night and maybe stay awake for those black friday sales… Here are two fun games that will make your friendsgiving dinner end amazing.

  • Shake your Tailfeathers

For this game you will need:

  • Fake Feathers
  • Tissue Box
  • Cord

Place the feathers in the tissue box and glue the cord onto the box with some duck tape. Make the players tie it around their waist, once they tie it set a timer and have them shake until all the feathers fall, the one who makes the feathers fall the fastest wins!

  • Goblet Gobble

For this game you will need:

  • Plastic Cups
  • Ping Pong Balls

Place one cup  per team or player on a table on a far side of the room. On the other side of the room, place one of the ping pong balls. To play the players have to move three ping pong balls from the table to their “goblet” on the opposite side of the room but they are only allowed to hold the ping pong ball between their chin and their neck.

Minute to win it games are fun to play and they are easy to get the materials!

I hope that these ideas come handy to you in case you decide to throw a friendsgiving dinner! Have a fun and safe time! Happy Holidays!!
