Four Shows to get you through Fall Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NMSU chapter.

As college students we tend to get overwhelmed with classes, teachers and some of us still have a job on top of that.  So, I decided to write about the four shows that have helped me cope with this semester. I have a show on here that you will help if you need a good laugh, a good cry and since our weather is still in the 90s something you make you feel like it’s really fall even though it isn’t.

1. The Office

My first show to help you survive the fall semester is…”The Office”. Now unless you’ve seen the show you already know how amazing this show is. For those that haven’t seen it! How dare you? Get on your netflix now! But in all seriousness though I love this show. It has a phenomenal cast such as Jenna Fisher, Rain Wilson and John Krasinski. This show has everything and takes place in Scranton, Pennsylvania.  The best part is you have the greatest GOAT of all time playing Michael Scott played By Steve Carell.

2. This is Us

My second recommendation is “This is us” and is currently in it’s second season. With an amazing cast such as Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown and Milo Ventimiglia. The series is based on the Pearson family. This show will have you crying your eyes out as it goes on the journey of Jack and Rebecca’s kids.  You will go into the lives of Kate who is trying to find self-acceptance and love, Kevin trying to pursue his career as an actor and Randall who is trying to raise a family with a demanding job. Its on NBC every Tuesday night but, if you don’t have a TV in your dorm I recommend watching it on hulu.

3. Gilmore Girls

My favorite third show is “Gilmore Girls” this series is based on a mother and daughter relationship played by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel.  It takes place in a small Connecticut town called stars hollow. Lorelai Gilmore by graham owns a bed-and-breakfast with her best friend sookie played by Melissa McCarthy and Lorelai’s daughter Rory played Bledel goes to school in Chilton, which eventually leads to her going to college in Yale.  Rory and her mother go through everything together. Men, friendships and lets not forget Friday night dinner with Lorelai’s parents.

4. Black-Ish

The next show I recommend is Black-ish I just started watching but I love how it brings up a lot of serious matters in today’s society such as racism, police brutality and most importantly how one African-American family strives to live in our society today.  The main actor is Anthony Anderson along side Trace Elis Ross.  Black-ish comes out on NBC but as stated before if you don’t have cable in your dorm room you can find all four seasons on hulu for $8.00 a month.

While I don’t have more shows to recommend from my own watch list, I have some that according to a lot of my friends and family are also good shows to watch. Just in case you weren’t likened by my recommendations.

  • Games of Thrones
  • Riverdale
  • Stranger Things
  • Orange is the new Black

That’s all the shows I can think of. Hopefully if you’re in need of a show binge or just have to mentally rest all these shows will help you push through this part of the semester. We are halfway there.
