I’ve Declared Emerald Is the Color of Fall, so Here’s How to Wear It

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at New School chapter.

By now, I’m sure you’ve seen Zendaya at the Emmys in what I’m calling the dress of the year (and possibly the dress of next year). Obviously, it’s hard to find an outfit Zendaya does not totally kill it in, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen a dress (on an award show carpet no less) that actually made my heart skip a beat. I’m pretty sure I stared at this sheer emerald green corset, custom made Vera Wang gown for about ten minutes the first time I saw it and then kept scrolling back to stare at it some more.

Admittingly, I’ve always been a bit biased towards the color emerald, and consequently forest green (Note: though forest green is a slightly darker shade than emerald, most of the time these colors are interchangeable to me unless it is a light emerald, sorry I am no Pantone expert). For one, it’s my birthstone, so a good portion of my jewelry collection includes some emeralds. Two, my junior year prom dress that I spent way too much money on was an emerald satin dress (a replica of the yellow dress Kate Hudson wears in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days) that I’ve been dying to wear again and it would be nice if someone extended an invitation next time they’re attending a gala. And while it’s not technically emerald, I’m sure the Philadelphia Eagles’ midnight green jerseys had some subconscious effect on my love for the color.

My personal history aside, what you really need to know is emerald (or forest green) is a deliciously rich color that thrives in the fall/winter. So if you’re looking for an excuse to update your seasonal wardrobe, or just need some inspo on how to style those green pieces you have, here it is.

Act Professional Oversized Blazer

I could write a love letter to blazers, but that’s a story for another time. They’re the key to making any outfit look slightly more professional and like you’re a put-together human. Pair this blazer with an emerald skirt, and you’ve got a top tier fall look. Okay, pair this with literally anything except what this model has on.

Weekday Velvet Mini Skirt

Sorry did someone say a dark green mini skirt? In velvet??? Sign me up. But if you’re looking for something to go with a blazer and is somewhat work-appropriate, this tailored a-line skirt may be more your speed.

Extra Fine Merino Ribbed Turtleneck Sweater

Here she is, the sweater you’ll wear for falls and winters to come.

Vera Satin Lace Up Formal Dress

I’m steering away from fall essentials, this one is just a life essential. Everyone should own a satin emerald dress for when you need to make your grand entrance down the main staircase at a party of the mansion of your soon-to-be lover, or for likewise occasions.

Wedding Super Skinny Suit Pants In Forest Green Micro Texture

I can’t leave the pant-wearers out of this list. How could I? These pants are gorgeous. Plus the color is subtle, but you still get points for taking a risk!

Wide Fit Purley High Heeled Pumps In Emerald Green

Okay I know these are a light shade of emerald, but I couldn’t resist. Save these for your spring wardrobe.
