9 Ways Your Facebook Newsfeed Is So New Paltz

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at New Paltz chapter.

There is no denying that social media is a very important part of a millennial’s life. Let’s face it, there is not one moment in the day we aren’t photobombing a Snapchat selfie or tweeting something super snarky. Communication over social media is so fast and accessible that you can’t help but completely integrate it into your daily life. After all, it’s our way of being social when we can’t be in person! If you’re a typical New Paltz student, you’ll find that your Facebook newsfeed is your best way to keep up-to-date with other students and townies alike. However, it can definitely be the key to your procrastination (and ultimately your demise). Even if you’re not on Facebook 24/7, you’ll be sure to recognize the many ways your newsfeed is #sonewpaltz.

1. Cute Animal Videos

ERMAHGERD LOOK AT ALL THE PUPPIES and KITTENS. Your day is ultimately made when you scroll past a GIF or even a 30 second video of God’s greatest creation: BABY ANIMALS. *cue the tears of happiness*

2. More Cute Animal Videos

‘Nuff said.

3. #FeelTheBern

Let’s face it, New Paltz is known for having predominately liberal people and they are not afraid to voice their views in the ever-changing world of politics. Election season is just around the corner and the media has made Hillary Clinton a fan-favorite for liberals; but little do they know, some New Paltz people are really digging Bernie Sanders’ campaign on Facebook! You must have been living under a rock if you haven’t seen the video of him calling out the media for constantly reporting on Hillary Clinton’s email. #byefelicia #byegovernment

4. New Paltz Bartering Community

If you need to get rid of old crap or are just looking to acquire some one-of-a-kind items, the New Paltz Bartering Community is your go-to spot on Facebook. You’ll always see multiple posts on your newsfeed of someone trying to find a stuffed animal or an obscure book and chances are that someone out of the 4,417 members will definitely have it. Remember, no money exchange! Just exchange of goods!

5. Frat Party Events

When you just wanna let loose, a good party never hurt nobody! Your Facebook newsfeed will be flooded with your friends attending themed parties hosted by weirdly named Facebook users and you’ll just know that you’re in for a good party weekend.

6. Happy Hour photos

When you’re 21, the ultimate start to your weekend is happy hour at PnG’s (or Pigs) for the Friday #turnup. From 3p.m.- 9p.m., your timeline will be filled with boozed-up college students with their Bud Light pitchers and dollar sliders shaking off the weekly stress.

7. Hudson Valley Scenery

Mohonk Mountains, the Atrium, Rail Trail, and Walkway over the Hudson to name a few. These picturesque landscapes are on your Facebook timeline everyday, guaranteed! New Paltz people can’t get enough of these views, no matter what season it is.

8. Feminism

As we all hopefully know, feminism is the belief that men and women should have equal rights. Your Facebook newsfeed will be bombarded with fierce women like Emma Watson or Beyonce speaking their mind and fighting for what’s right.

9. The Latest meme

How many “Hotline Bling” memes are there again? A million? Seems accurate.
