When you first get off exit 18 of the New York Thruway and you see these signs, you know fall is here. Pumpkin and apple picking on the many farms surrounding New Paltz? Yes please! The best part: you can go apple picking right down the road from campus, at Apple Hill Farm or Dressel Farms!

2. Leaves beginning to change colors
When you first step onto campus, you not only feel the cool fall breeze, but you get to see the different colors of fall surround campus. Reds, oranges, and yellows are everywhere! While it is still a little too early, soon enough Mohonk will also be filled with these colors and the view is amazing.

3. Even Starbucks becomes festive
Need a caffeine pick me up in between your midday classes, or can’t get through the last half of the week? Starbucks at the SUB can not only give you a caffeine kick, but can also put a smile on your face with their festive sign. Between the sign welcoming fall to the one welcoming back pumpkin spice, Starbucks at the SUB is really on their fall game.

4. Leggings are back!
The weather is getting colder and getting dressed for those 8 a.m. classes without looking like a mess can be rough. Leggings are the perfect answer. So comfortable, and when matched correctly, can look like you put more effort into your outfit than you probably did. Fall means most of New Paltz’s female population will be breaking out those leggings and pairing them with big sweaters and sweatshirts.

5. Most relationships begin forming
Colder weather means cuffing season is upon us! Couples begin to form all around us as people look for people to hang out with or cuddle with during the cold months that are upon us.

6. Leaf Blowers everywhere
When you hear the campus maintenance guys outside your window on the one day you can sleep in, you know fall is here and in full swing. While it may be annoying when you are trying to sleep, or even hung over, a campus free of slippery leaves is worth it, especially when you are one prone to slipping on them.

7. Fall TV is back!
Grey’s, Scandal, and Murder. Fall TV is back! What could be better than #TGIT aka Shonda Thursdays on ABC?! You can definitely hear about these three shows and even more through your neighbor’s walls, windows, or even spoken about in classes. Even sports are back! Football and hockey, yes please! Now is the time you can find the bars in town packed with fans from all over town getting together to cheer on their team.

8. It’s the (Fall Break) Countdown
Finally, the countdown to Fall Break is on! With the stress of midterms and the now approaching finals, you need a little bit of a break. The countdown to fall break keeps you sane for those last few days of the first half of the semester and gives you that little bit of hope that you can make it through.
