Meet Julianne Toce ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at New Haven chapter.

Name: Julianne Toce

Hometown: East Hampton, CT

Year: Junior

Major: Marketing

Her Campus: Other than Up ‘til Dawn, what else are you involved with on campus?

Julianne: I am a sister of Phi Sigma Sigma and Panhellenic Vice President of Administration.

HC: What made you get involved with Up ‘til Dawn?

Julianne: My freshman year, I was an open member and participated in the event. Seeing how passionate the eboard members were for this organization and learning so much more about St. Jude made me want to get involved. I have been fundraising for St. Jude since I was a kid, and it’s always been one of my favorite charities. So many people around me have been affected by cancer, and I wanted to make a difference. St. Jude is such an amazing organization and being able to help through our campus, and getting so many students involved is amazing.

HC: What is your personal fundraising goal this year?

Julianne: This year I am trying to raise $1,000!

HC: You went to St. Jude’s hospital in Memphis, TN over the summer, what was your favorite memory from the trip?

Julianne: Visiting Memphis, Tennessee this summer was an experience I will never forget. Not only was I able to meet other executive directors from all over the US and learn about their events, I was also able to hear patient stories, visit the hospital, and learn so many new things about St. Jude. I was also able to accept two awards from St. Jude on behalf of UNH’s Up ‘til Dawn program! One of my favorite memories that will stick with me forever was hearing Allie Allen’s story. This 17-year-old girl from Memphis came and spoke and shared her story being a St. Jude patient and battling brain cancer. She was so strong and brave, meeting her impacted me so much and made all the effort I have been putting in to this organization worth it.

HC: What is one goal you have for this club and yourself that you want to fulfill during your term as president?

Julianne: This year my main goal is to raise $100,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital! My eboard and myself want to make a difference and be a top fundraising school for the second year in a row.

HC: For those who don’t know, what is Up ‘til Dawn and how can one get involved?

Julianne: Up ‘til Dawn is a college organization whose mission is to raise money and awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. You can get involved by being on a team of 6 and raising money throughout the year. You and your team will then attend our overnight event on Feb. 27th starting at 11p.m., and participate in various challenges and events to earn points for your team! We give up a night of sleep for the children of St. Jude who go through many sleepless nights. To get involved you can visit utd.stjude.org to sign up you and your team! You can also email me at uptildawn@newhaven.edu to answer any questions!
