You Know You Go to N.C. State When…

N.C. State University, established in 1887, has many interesting little quirks, traditions, and an aura on campus that makes us the Wolfpack. Her Campus has compiled a list of 87 quotes that define us as proud N.C. State students. From funny to serious, to the seriously funny, here is our list…

You Know You go to N.C. State When…

1. The Bubble is not a clear shiny floating object of fun, rather an annoying eye-sore taking up space in the Brickyard.

 2. “Copies of the Technician are easy to find,” Hey, what’s that stuck to my shoe? -Dequan Powell

 3. The local farmers market gets its own day every week in the Brickyard.

 4. “Hiking” refers to drinking an alcoholic beverage in every bar or restaurant on Hillsborough st.

 5. You know where all of the “hot spots,” or warm air vents, are on campus during the winter and you walk a little bit slower through them.

 6. You know where the most comfortable spots to sleep in D.H. Hill are.

 7. The farmhouse is neither a barn or a real farm, rather it is a fraternity or a bar.

 8. Taking on the Krispy Kreme Challenge gives you bragging rights.

 9. You trip over bricks while walking to class.

 10. You have spray paint cans in your closet.

 11. “Your idea of a fancy night out is eating at I <3 NY Pizza!” – Becca Burton

 12. You have paint on at least one item of clothing from walking through the Free Expression Tunnel
or painting it.

 13. You fear rainy days because the bricks become ridiculously slippery.

 14. You make “wolf ears” whenever you are rooting on any game or are excited.

 15. “You have an entire page devoted to the squirrels on Facebook.” – Sarah Baist

 16. “Cows in the Brickyard is no big deal.” – Amanda Walker

 17. You go to the library with intentions of studying but it turns into a social event where you end up
getting Howling Cow Ice Cream and playing on the Ipad tables.

 18. You almost get high walking through the tunnel to class because of all of the spray paint particles in the air.

 19. “You embrace terms like ‘Moo U.’” – Emily Matthews

 20. “You can walk through a tunnel and NOT be startled by a train zooming by 20 feet above your head.” – Brittany Hall
 

21. Wearing red and white four out of five times a week is encouraged.

 22. Zach Galifianakis is your hero and The Hangover describes your typical weekend.

 23. Your classes go from twenty students to two hundred, as your money goes to renovations that you might not benefit from as a student.

 24. “You bleed Wolfpack Red.” – Justine Blanc-Laine

 25. You yell “..and the home of the WOLFPACK!” at the end of the national anthem.

 26. “Your calendar revolves around Wolfpack athletics!” – Justine Blanc-Laine

 27. You can tell if you’re late for class by the Belltower’s chimes.

 28. Your favorite construction project is the new median in the middle of Hillsborough St…finally it doesn’t take ten minutes to cross the road!

 29. Cook-Out is where you’ll find 30% of the student body between midnight and 4a.m.

 30. You hate all forms of the color blue.

 31. You can’t walk more than 100 feet on campus without seeing another form of construction.

 32. People think that you wear cowboy boots, Carhartt jackets, or camo to class everyday.

 33. You listen to a yelling preacher in the Brickyard while you eat your lunch.

 34. You have rode on a wolf…one of the three in Wolf Plaza that is.

 35. Your room is decked out in red and black…seriously, don’t tell me you can’t look around and see at least five red things.

 36. Wearing royal blue or Carolina blue on campus is signing your own death note.

 37. You protect a tunnel from rival schools attacking it before game days.

 38. “Chalking” is an accepted and well-known verb. “Let’s go chalking tonight!”

 39. “The courts and beaches are actually made of grass.” –Sara Baucom

 40. You know what board bucks are.

41. You and thousands of Wolfpack fans at football games to perform stunts with colored cards that make ginormous images…”WOLF PACK.”

 42. You give buildings nick-names. Harrelson is known as “the spaceship” or Poe as “the rice crispy treat.”

43. If you live or lived in Owen or Tucker and fought over the “title” of the beach between the two dorms…and you still do.

 44. Walking to Hillsborough St., Mission Valley, or Cameron Village is your “big adventure” of the week.

 45. You play Cornhole and beerpong at tailgating events…and in your room, apartment or house every other day of the week.

 46. “You know what the UAB stands for.” – Dequan Powell
 

47. You know that Thursday is the new Friday and Saturday becomes more like Sunday.

 48. “A major about poultry seems completely normal.” – Kathryn Hornaday

 49. You willingly choose, no WANT, to camp outside on a freezing cold winter night on the hard unforgiving ground for tickets to a two hour basketball game.

 50. Items on your desk shake and rattle every three hours from the train passing by your window.

 51. You get a parking ticket if you step out of your car for one second anywhere on campus.

 52. “Your idea of a disaster is when the dining hall ice cream machines break.” – James Blew

 53. A homeless person asks you for a dollar so reach in your pocket – and pull out your Student ID, the only form of currency you have.

 54. You go to the gym 30 minutes early just to get in to the 15 minute Absolutions class.

 55. You see students sitting on couches drinking beer in the back of their trucks on the way to tailgates.

 56. You have ordered treats from the Bite Me Cookie delivery service.

 57. You get citations about your extension cords dangling from the ceiling but you don’t get in trouble for the “excessive clutter on the floor” which just happens to be the books and homework you threw off your bed last night.

 58. “You have an entire load of laundry devoted to “reds.” – Sara Baucom

 59. As you’re studying for an exam in the study commons of the library, a pack of “nearly naked” students run past.

 60. You get five text messages from campus police about “suspicious activity” on campus…when it was probably just you and your friends walking home.

 61. “A fifteen minute walk becomes no time at all.” – Dequan Powell

 62. You hear loud music on campus and HAVE to check out where it’s coming from.

 63. Walking past Danny Mcbride in Wolf Plaza, seeing Tucker Max at Witherspoon, and going to Ludacris concerts in Reynolds Coliseum is no big deal.

 64. “Ordering Pokey Sticks at 3a.m. is part of your everyday routine.” – Alexie Parpan

 65. You’ve climbed those triangular brick arches between Price Music Center and Talley Student Center, got to the top and thought, “what was I thinking! How do I get down?!”

 66. You have the song “Wolfpack Party” by The Pack and know the “Wolfpack” speech by Alan from the Hangover by heart.

 67. You’ve chatted in online chats about your homework…with the librarians in D.H. Hill.

 68. You go to the top floors of the library and crowd the windows to watch the fireworks at night during the N.C. State Fair.

 69. “A visit to Centennial Campus calls for careful planning and time management.” – Dequan Powell

 70. You have a collection of “BEAT ______” buttons from game days.

 71. You’re allowed to have shot glasses in your room, but not empty bottles of liquor or beer…

 72. You know what the “Daily Tar Hell” is and LOVE the days it is distributed.

 73. You seriously consider wearing rollerblades on days you have class in Harrelson Hall just so you can skate down the ramp.

 74. You’ve carried on a secret conversation with a friend in the Wolf Ears.

 75. You gave up studying for that chemistry test and rubbed “the walking professor” statue for some good luck instead.
 

76. You know there is a nuclear reactor on campus but have never actually seen it.

 77. You know where to find 50% of Wolfpack Collegiettes™ on April 12th 2011….The Art to Wear Fashion Show!

 78. Your dining options at the atrium have been updated from fries and salads to sushi and cheesecake.

 79. You know what the “fourth meal” is and strongly support it because hard bagels and dry muffins at midnight from Hill of the Beans coffee shop just won’t cut it anymore.

 80. People have streaked in the book stacks during exam week.

 81. Professors tell you to bring “blue books” to exam days, but since our campus is so environmentally friendly, they are now “green books,” yet they still call them “blue books.”

 82. You don’t look before you cross the street because you know the buses will stop for you.

 83. If you really think about it, you can probably name the only two buildings on campus that don’t have any bricks.

 84. The term “Dead week” was complained about and was changed to “the last week of the semester” …yeah right!

 85. People pass out pieces of paper near the tunnel, and you know you’ll see a trashcan overflowing with hundreds of balled up strips of paper at the other end of the tunnel.

 86. You’ve been to clubs like Fubar or City Limits at least once – and that’s usually enough.

 87. You’re friends with someone who has a deep southern-drawl country accent and you’re also friends with someone with a nasally-northern accent.
