With November comes the last month of classes for the fall semester, and after a week of exams, winter break! Winter break is long, lasting from mid-December to mid-January. Around this time, students start to wonder what they’ll do during this time. If you’re unsure, here are a few ideas to get you started.

Visit Family and Friends during break

With all of the holidays happening towards the end of December, it is the perfect time to see family! If your family lives far away, you could spend several weeks with them. If they’re close by, you can still spend time with them. You can talk with your grandparents and cousins, or take the time to catch up with old friends you haven’t seen in a while. Throw a party to celebrate the holidays or invite someone out to eat. Spend Christmas and New Year’s with those closest to you, and have fun!

Go to the beach during break

Now, the beach may not be the most wintery place, but never fear! The water is cooler, but North Carolina beaches are still open. The warmer coast may be a nice break from the cool air of the Piedmont and Mountain regions of the state. Plus, there are plenty of tourist attractions, shops, and restaurants to explore in the Winter. The variety of beaches provide beautiful sunrises and sunsets, soft sand to walk on, sunny spots to lounge in, and waves to splash around and swim in. Not to mention they’re an easy drive and a trip within state. Visiting the beach makes for a fulfilling break!

Go Skiing during break

One of the best winter activities to do is skiing! When it’s time for snow, people head to the mountains to take a ski down the slope. Skiing is a very exciting activity that includes travel. One can go to another state, such as Colorado, which has a large number of ski slopes. Besides skiing, you can see what the area around the slopes has to offer!

Relax During Break

You don’t have to go anywhere while on break, though. You could always stay at home and enjoy the lack of homework! Spend time with your parents or in your room, go out on occasion to eat or shop, and do whichever hobbies you like best. Decorate your house or bake for the holidays. Sleep in every day. It’s not every month you don’t have classes!

Whatever you decide to do and wherever you go, I hope each and every one of you enjoys your Winter Break! Make sure to remember the most important thing to do during break: have fun!
